Recently at a car show, I saw a 48 Plymouth coupe that a one piece front glass. The guy standing next

to the car when asked stated it was from some kind of Nissan car but he had no idea which one.

Now i'm not above two peice glass as in original style but this modification made good sense to me.

Not sure if the opening has to be changed -depending upon the glass I would guess-but need to know what it might be. Anybody have ideas?

Newby here but not new to the car game. I have a '48 Plymouth coupe special deluxe. It is modified

from original condition only by newer engine trans  and rearend. It will not be chopped or any other

nasty body modification except maybe this. No pictures        yet.

there is an extremely remote possibility that a Nissan glass could work..but I do not think so personally..odd that cars had the bent V in one piece as original due to the safety issue of distorted vision...divider is one thing..bent glass is yet another and butted glass is yet a third...as he did not know I am sure he either bought the car that way already or the PO who bought it that way was only assuming when passing said info along...or you could well be the subject of banter...

If it was curved glass, which I suspect from anything as new as a Nissan, the opening would have to be modified to accept a curved one piece.  The stock opening is for flat glass, two pieces on different planes.  Only the stock two piece w/center mullion, a V butted (glued) two piece or a "bent" one piece which is flat glass bent in the center would work without modifiying the stock opening,.....BIG TIME!.

I like the stock two piece with shiney new glass!

The glass in the car show had the right curve to it as well as a place in the center that lined up with the "peak" across the center of the of the car where the stainless piece goes.I'm aware that there could be some modification but to me it still made sense. The results

would  be similiar in scope to what happens if an Oldsmibile windshield  (50 to 52)gets put into a Chevy of the same years-like it was

made for it and would continue the flow from the roof line to the hood

yes Alshere, the windshield was as was illustrated in your link. It of course had to be glued in and did not use a gasket.

I'm going to find illustrations.  I know there has been some pictured in recent magazines.

I want what car it came off of.

I think you missed a number of the finer points on the glass and its install..the glass is normally bent one piece flat glass and they are installed in a special molded rubber seal that is custom for the "custom" glass...a number of folks market this glass for our old cars...trucks I am not sure of but would not rule out an application for them also..

I went to the carnut.com picture index and looked for some P15 coupes with the modified windshield.

This is the first one I found (red).

Next one (blue).

and last one (pink).

I imagine there are even more if  you look further.

This company sold one piece curved windsheilds for p-15's a few years ago. I was inquiring myself for one to fit 49 & 50's. No go go on that back then.

Checked again, still going strong! Even now selling on ebay.

Anyway the contact info is:

I've got some pictures of the car I saw but got to figure out how to get them on here. BobT- I've gone to carnut too. Those

pictures appear to be two pieces of flat glass joined in the middle. Still neat and makes the stainless piece in the center go away

and that may be the way I have to go. I like the look of the orginial glass but mine has a broken /cracked half of the winshield

and I'm going to have to replace it anyway so might just as well do a little update!

It seems you're talking about what's called V-butted glass where the center bar is removed and the glass is butted together with just a very small bead of clear silicone is used at the seam.

The company mentioned before will make a glass kit for your car to do this. Probably has patterns already. They install too, but on the coast of Ca.

There are several tutorials on the web. Try searching: v-butted glass.

steelerubber.com sells these replacement windsheild gaskets for p-15's and p-17-p-20's maybe more, didn't look. They are made with no center bar rubber for v-butted glass. Actually slightly cheaper that the stocker.

Best to ya,

Doug
