Installed a new water pump yesterday, test drove it, and it LEAKS. Check all bolts, still leaks. SO > > > I must not have cleaned off the old gasket properly and left a small piece of old gasket. So, off it goes. . . Got to make that BBQ

Yes I did. I removed the pump, sharpened up the edge of agood putty knife and found I had be a bit careless. My permatex is all rubber I'm using a 3M seal a gasket for the sealer, the same sealer I used on the head gasket.

Is that OK, I can still change.

This is hard on knuckles, those core fins are sharp, will use glove tomorrow.

Might consider using some of this Permatex gasketing material i found on there site, supposedly its formulated for use on water pumps and thermostat housings. Heres the link:

I hate RTV silicones for that type of application. My favorite gasket sealant is Permatex #9 Tack and Seal. It's not as slick as RTV and will hold a gasket in place better.
