jimfenick Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 I am sending my B4B frame to the Blaster on Monday, after stripping off every possible part, I am trying to determine if the frame was originally satin or gloss black? Does anyone know what the factory used? Quote
Desotodav Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 Jim, I'd have to say satin black judging by the frames that I have seen here in the land of Oz. Desotodav Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 I'd go this route: http://www.eastwood.com/ew-original-chassis-black-paint-gal-satin.html Satin is about right, Hank Quote
52b3b Joe Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 I used epoxy primer and low gloss Valspar Tractor restoration paint. Its cheap, chip resistant and easy to use. I would double check and make sure your frame is square too. Mine ended up being twisted and bend. Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 I use the following, prep metal either sandblast sand, wirewheel whatever. Then acid treat bare or pitted steel, shoot on or roll, rusty metal primer, topcoat with Tremclad (rustoleum) semi-gloss or gloss black, rust paint. This has worked very well for me. I do not use POR15,Zero Rust, or Eastwoods, the elcheapo stuff has served me right... Quote
4852dodge Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 I did mine by grinding and sanding anything I could get a disc on and two coats of rustoleum rusty metal primer and two coats of gloss black. The first time I did it, (25 years ago) it held up pretty well with Conn. winters and salt so I did it again. Quote
jimfenick Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks guys, I ended up settling on a painter to shoot the frame, he has a high chip resistant satin that he shoots on fleet vehicles in town. I decided that my the wife may have a few words with me if I setup a paint booth in the garage . A few hundred, no aggravation! Quote
jimfenick Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) Finally getting out of the rust/grease. Blasted today. Edited October 10, 2012 by jimfenick Quote

HanksB3B Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Are you suggesting Jim should clear coat it? Hi Mark, Hank It sure does look good! Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Are you suggesting Jim should clear coat it?Hi Mark, Hank It sure does look good! actually, if you could get a good bond and protection, that'd be cool Quote
Scruffy49 Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 Clear powder coat would work... and cost about the same as painting it... and be a lot more durable... Quote
