james curl Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 That is one reason that some are running 5 speed overdrive transmissions out of modern small pick ups. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 reasonable price means what exactly? Quote
austinsailor Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 I bought one about 2 years ago in excellent shape .... with a floor shift conversion attached to it for $300. Just my opinion, but I thought it was way below cheap. I expected the police to show up any minute for a theft. What do you guys think? $500 to $700 as a reasonable selling price? Oh, I bought another last spring for $750. Might sound high, but it was in a 53 Plymouth 2 door hard top with 12,000 miles on it! About 2 years ago I had a 54 dodge with a stuck hemi and od that was in Iowa for $250 located. I was going to go get it, decided I didn't feel like driving the 400 miles one way. I posted it here for all to have a shot. 6 months later I regretted not getting it, called him and he had taken it to the shredder. Are you sick yet? Keep your eyes open, search Craigslist often - daily - use "dodge overdrive", "plymouth overdrive", "Chrysler overdrive", "desoto overdrive" and "mopar overdrive" as your search terms. On the local Craigslist page you can exclude terms, like newer years by searching on "dodge overdrive -2000 -2001 -01" etc. I'm guessing, but haven't tried, that will work with the craigslist search engines on the web. You can make a file with the excluded years up, then paste it in each time. Mine is 5 typed lines, excluding all years 1970 on. By the way, that was how I found the '53 2 door, searching for overdrive. Good luck Let's not let any more go to the shredder. Gene sitting on the texas coast today Quote
austinsailor Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Ok I tried this one, excluding the years works: http://zoomthelist.com/ Gene Quote

55 Fargo Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Mike, I know you have a few. Judging by your prices on ebay, I know I cant afford you.Its no rush. If I can find one for $400-500 ill go for it, anything beyond that I dont want it. Keep looking, you may find 1 in a complete parts car or something. Another option is to go to a more modern diff, say a Mopar 8 1/4 with 3.23 gearing or better. I know this will not drop the rpm, and be as cool as the r10, but it will sure help you cruise at freeway speeds. A good combo might be a 4.10 diff, and the R10 OD trans, great bottom end, and OD for the highway....Good Luck, keep looking, there will be something out there Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 reasonable price means what exactly? I think the opposite of reasonable is unreasonable Mikey, ain't hinting anything or nothing, "Just Sayin".... Quote
plyroadking Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 You might try Dodgeb4ya, I talked with him a few months ago and recall him mentioning that he might have one, but didn't want to sell it in case it didn't work. I have a couple but I've been too busy with school to finish rebuilding and testing them. Quote
Tim Keith Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) Somebody should make adapters for the Laycock de normanville overdrive. These are cheap at the Pick N pull, Volvos etc. They are the same design as the pricey Gearvendors O/D. There is a "divorced" conversion for the Laycock de normanville, but its expensive, for what it actually is. A machinist could make the divorced kit - so that you can connect it via a short driveshaft. The divorced Laycock adapter from Europe is $750. The Denman Overdrive for the Dodge power Wagon is actually a divorced Laycock. Laycocks are strong, except you can easily damage them when they are engaged while using reverse, thus they have a reverse lockout. Plenty of these in rusty old Volvos and Jaguars. http://www.1all.com/laycock/Mvc-001f.jpg Edited October 4, 2012 by Tim Keith Quote
