NobbyofTexas Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Has anyone covered their truck bed floor with diamond plate on the forum, if you have, could you please post photos of your trucks. Also, what is everyone's opinion of putting diamond plate on the truck bed floor? Thanks, Gary Miami Texas Quote
Dave72dt Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 As with any steel floor, anything you put on the bed will slide around. With a stake bed, that means tieing everything down. With a wood floor on a stake bed, things tend to stay put. If you're not going to carry anything, polished aluminum diamond plate would look real good. Quote
JBNeal Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Polished aluminum tread plate decking on service bodies of utility trucks, brush fire trucks, etc. usually has black grit paint applied to the horizontal surfaces, as that noonday sun will blind ya if you're working in the vicinity. I've seen the polished tread plate floors at hot rod shows, and they look nice indoors and early & late in the day outdoors, but they have the same blinding effect in the noonday sun. So a body color or black tread floor could be sunny-day safe...if ya could find some checkerboard tread plate, then ya got somethin' Quote
Frank Ollian Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 I've considered using aluminum diamond plate in a one ton pick up, I'm trying to decide how thick it should be to keep it from sagging between the cross members with weight on it . Anyone have experience or suggestions on what thickness would be stiff enough? The black finish sounds good as I'm not looking for a mirror finish. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 for strength, would think 1/4 inch will do it..if all the cross rails are in place..will look good, should wear great and weather nicely also..easy to work with.. Quote
HanksB3B Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 I like it on fire engines, would find it acceptaple on a work truck, but would consider it as unacceptable on something of show quality. But that's just me, Hank Quote
Monkey Truck Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 This diamond plate was installed in the bed in 1972 when the original wooden bed rotted out. I just removed it and installed wood in it's place. Quote
