Franklyn49 Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 The wiring diagram for my 49 Plymouth special deluxe (p18) Shows, in a few spots, a "circle, with an X through it" what does this refer to? I'll add a link to a pic of what I mean... Thanks in advance Quote
greg g Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 In the part of the schematic you show (which doen't look like the one I have in my manual) the wire pointing to it is the energizing circuit for the starter solenoid as such this would be the light load side and the circled x would represent the starter button or start position of the ignition switch, and indicates that the solenoid is self grounding through its mounting to the body or chassis. Franklyn49 Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) I guess I was confused a bit, because it is also present "near" the ignition switch on the diagram. (a lead going from the switch TO the circle with an X) I guess just a bit deceiving as it seemed "separate" from the switch itself. (rather than, in my case, a position of the keyed switch) Thanks that seems to make sense now based on what I'm looking at under the hood. Yours is different eh? do we have the same car? my wiring diagram seems to line up pretty good for me so far. Edited August 10, 2012 by Franklyn49 Quote
greg g Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 I have a 46, so I have the starter button on the dash board, but it is energized only when the ign switch is in the run position. My ign switch is from a later car that has the start position but it is not wired to that but rather to the run positioiin. My wiring service manual includes 46 through 52 but the diagrams do not have that circuit drawn that way. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 My '49 wiring diagram does feature this "symbol" your schematic if using said symbol should also have a "legend" embedded is nome sort in inset..'49 (P17/P18) did introduce the "key-start" in the Plymouth lineup.. Quote
DJ194950 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 :confused:I my experience a circle with "X" in side stood for a push button type switch. If your car is a P15 from what i read, it would have this for start. P17 and up had a key start. Appears that the diagram is for earlier models,?? at least USA built cars. I see that your in canada, could that make a differance?? But i'm looking at repro manuels that show P-15 thru p-20 schematics USA built. what happened to P-16??? If you need copies of Usa built P-15 thru p-20 let me know. The manuel aslo has a page just for starter circuit with both wiring setups, P-15 v.s. P-17 up. No "x's" with circles. PM if needed.
