dave5711
Hi there Pilot house People. I am going to post this link to a short video walk around of my 49 Fargo. I have built it to not be a hot rod, rat rod, original, prostreet, drag, or Gmachine vehicle. It's kind of a blend of some different Genre's. The paint was done in the garage, and it has turned into a semi weathered type of look. ALL work to this vehicle was done by my Son Steven and I. Engine isn't in yet. Likely in this weekend. Mild Big Block Mopar. I figure the best place for some feedback is right here. I would like to know peoples thoughts on the look, stance, appearance. of it. Thanks I like that this board has a blend of guys. Some hot rodded, some restored etc. It's cool Edited April 26, 2012 by dave5711
pflaming
I like what you have 'built'. I like the creativity that takes place. I like that you widened the front fenders, nice. I struggle with two styles of wheels. Question: split windshild or without the center piece?
dave5711
Thanks. The two wheels were part budget, part necessity. Wide tires in 17 are harder to get, and expensive if you can get them. The 15's won't fit on the front because of the size of the brakes. so it made sense. The cop wheels up front were really cheap, even brand new. It will have the split windshield back in it. I have a new seal for it, just need to get the glass cut. HanksB3B
Great father and son project. Can't wait to see it run. Hopefully your son doesn't have a license and you'll let him drive it down the back alley! I remember when I was 15 I told my dad I wanted a motorcycle. He looked at me and said "Over my dead body!". The next day, a brand new Honda was in our garage. It was his but he let me ride it all the time. God I miss him, Hank
sniggle_t
Great project! I'd love more info on your front suspension installation. Did you have to move the wheels forward to put it in or was this just for the weight distribution/ride factor. I heard in your video that you had to add material to the sides of the frame to accommodate the wider crown vic front end, could you elaborate a bit more on that? Also, did you need to use the big truck fenders because the car front end was wider or just because the wheels are farther forward? Actually, are you using the entire big truck fender or just the flares over the wheel openings. I ask because the big truck fenders are longer and I wondered how you would mount them. Thanks and keep up the good work and videos.

Thanks and keep up the good work and videos. Thanks! I moved the wheels forward for better weight distribution. It was a choice more than a need, The big truck fenders allowed for that. I could have put the suspention in the factory spot, but I used to run a race car, and thought, this is so easy to do at this point, why wouldn't I? The big truck fenders are the same length. Direct bolt in. The wheel opening is much bigger, and the flare is a bolt on. Unmodified, the flare was actually too wide and tall(it hangs below the bottom of the fender) I moved the bolt holes over, so I could move the flares in, and shortened them up. Yes, The car front is wider than the factory stuff, and it would have been a bit off with the factory fenders. Not ridiculous, but not great. As for the added material, the frame was about 2-3" too narrow. I didn't want to do a bunch of weld on stuff, as that can become questionable at safety inspection time, so I bolted channel to the frame to make it wider. I think if you look on youtube, I talk a bit about that in fargo truck tv episode 2. There is some underhood footage there. The motor goes in this weekend! pflaming
Dave, ". . .he just turned 12. . ." You should have had him behind the wheel for two years already. But it's not too late!!!!!

1950 Special Deluxe
Do you have the dimensions/pattern for your glass? There is a fellow up here trying to fit glass into his 50 Fargo and is having a bit of trouble. Thanks Neil It will have the split windshield back in it. I have a new seal for it, just need to get the glass cut.
Merle Coggins
Looks fun. What are the rear tires? They have an interesting tread pattern. Merle

Thanks Neil I have the old glass. It's cracked, but I tapped it up so it wouldn't fall apart. I'm not sure how I could make it work for him from here. 4msfamly
Any chance you could post the track width (outside of tire to outside of tire) for me? I'm not sure if the CV frame would fit inside the fenders of a C3... love the look of your truck! Can you explain your mount a bit more? Looks like it's 3" channel? Did you have to shim between the frame and the front of the channel at all? In my '55 the frame has a pretty good coke bottle shape to it, so I think your Fargo might be an easier mount up than mine... however, if the track width works, I might just splice in a frame mount for it. Thanks for your time! Marc
dave5711
It's 5" channel The channeel is bolted to the frame. The through bolts for the cv suspension go theough the channel at the front and the original frame at the rear. I'll see if I can get a width measurement. I may have it up on a hoist this weekend. I got the Windshields in yesterday!

4msfamly
Sorry I was thinking of the front track width of the CV from outside of tire to tire. . I think I'll go attack a local taxi with a tape measure and see. might be better than using a cop car to measure!
