Don Jordan Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 I've been looking for the bracket that holds the coil. I've usually had great luck on the bay. I went on tonight and it's full of car covers, engine paint, seat covers, head lights, and seat covers. It's getting like the flea markets/swap meets, etc. They are taking the spirit out of the experience. I guess it's been sneaking up on me and I didn't notice. Quote
mackster Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 its beem like that for a little while. they have tons of stuff that says: fits______ blah blah blah. What I do now, is narrow my searches to exactly what im looking for! it Helps a little... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Yes.......I've noticed the same thing. To narrow it down some, you should have the column on the left side of the ebay screen entitled."Refine Search". Go down and click on the heading of Vintage Car and Truck Parts. That deletes some of the stuff we don't want. Or, just be more specific in your search heading, like "1947 Plymouth coil" or something that mentions the item sought, along with the made and model of car. One seller seems to have a supply of this style...........starting at $24.99. JerseyHarold Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Another forum member (I don't remember who) had a great suggestion a while ago: filter the word 'fits' from your search. It cuts down on a lot of useless ads. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 type in -cover at the end of your search and this will subtract anything in the list with the word cover, you can also do a -seat and get rid of seat covers also..you can add many of these deletes Quote
oldmopar Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 You can put them in brackets to remove more items. 1948 plymouth -(fits,cover,mats) Quote
Roadkingcoupe Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 I went on tonight and it's full of car covers, engine paint, seat covers, head lights, and seat covers. It's getting like the flea markets/swap meets, etc. They are taking the spirit out of the experience. eBay has been offering special listing days twice a month for "power sellers" that allow listings for FREE for up to 50,000 items (not kidding). As a result many items are listed hundreds and thousands of times with same title and an addition of "FITS 1948 Plymouth" to flood the listings. It is unfortunate that eBay has abandoned the "Unique item sellers" in favour of mass listing and drop shipping sellers. If you follow the business side of eBay they are going after the "Amazon" business by coercing sellers to have free ONE day shipping. As a result they are squashing the unique basement sellers. INTERESTING FACT: ebay started as a vehicle to sell beanie babies and hot wheels. Quote
mossback44 Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 I have found that the items with the (fits blah blah ...) don't actually have that in their titles, but it is somehow added on by eBay. So, rather than searching for 1932 Desoto, I search for 1932 "Desoto". Putting Desoto in quotes eliminates all of the items that don't actually have Desoto in their title. That simple change reduced the number of items found from 665 to 104 and eliminated all of the (fits blah blah ...) items. I only put Desoto in quotes, rather than including the year, so I don't eliminate items with titles like '1932-33 Desoto tail light' or '1930s Desoto fender' which aren't an exact match for "1932 Desoto". Don Jordan Posted February 11, 2012 Author Report Posted February 11, 2012 BobT - thanks for the lead. I put a bid on it. All the hints are very helpful. I don't mind looking at some of the stuff but after a while it just get redundant. Thanks again. Quote
HughForrest Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 In "Advanced" searches you can exclude specific sellers. By putting maybe a dozen of the most useless sellers there you can eliminate most co the chaff. Don't forget to save this as a "Favorite" search so you can search & add more bad sellers to it as you go along without re-typing anything. Quote

I WANT this, but when I select a saved search and go to Advanced search I didn't find anything to exclude sellers. What am I missing? Marty Quote
