UKPlymouth Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Guys - you gotta look at this - with 8 hours to go! Ebay item No. 220102073180 Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Last one did not meet the reserve. Something strange going on here. At these prices someone should be making new ones. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300093747706&rd=1&rd=1 Quote
Normspeed Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Makes me happy that I'm not restoring my car. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Sure makes me feel good that I got mine at an estate sale for 3 or 4 bucks. Still in original box with instructions, etc. No, it's not a MoPar item, just aftermarket, but in good shape. Suits me. Don't think I've actually heard a single soul comment on it yet......so I'm glad I didn't pay $4000 for it. Quote
David Maxwell Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 They are not likely to honor the bids or the seller has setup the bidder IDs. There are a few compases, Mopar included, that can draw prices as high as $400, but this is NOT one of them. $3,000 +! I don't think so! Like Don said, you could afford to make the molds and start producing them at that price. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 None approaching that ridiculous price. Most in the 10 to 20 dollar range for now. They crop up pretty steadily. Here's a AAA auto club nice one at $9 so far. Or a Hull streamliner...... that's what we had in our car in the 50s. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 You could buy a whole running car for that kind of money!! I've never had one in any of my cars and never saw a need for one, so I wouldn't even spend a dollar on one. Quote
Normspeed Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Not a vintage item but for a few hundred bucks I'd rather get a handheld GPS that tells me where I am, how fast I'm going, how to get where I'm going and heck maybe even a good place to eat when I get there. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I have a few of the streamlined Hull models..by far these are the sleekest loooking ones on the market...and still reasonable in price and shipping...look to see them go off the chart someday... Quote
windsor8 Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Does anyone what type of fluid should be in an old Hull compass? I've got one in the box but there is no fluid in it. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Had a discussion about that some time back. It may be mineral oil, but not sure. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 There are marine companies that will refresh compasses for fairly cheap. For some reason around $50 comes to mind. Quote

Normspeed Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 If you look at the buyer's ID and see what he has been buying and how much he is willing to pay, I'd say he might be someone with more money than common sense, and he just may have been royally shilled on this auction. But what the heck, it may as well happen to a rich guy! Cost is obviously no object. Wonder where the enjoyment comes in for him, is it actually scoring the item, or is it just showing everyone that he has more money than they do? Quote
