55 Fargo Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Hi all, I am in the process of removing the dual heater and cowl vent system from my 47 Chrysler parts car, this car is a Windsor with dual heaters. I am currently fixing up a 48 Royal coupe, it came with only 1 heater, but has none right at the moment, is it necessary that I put the dual heaters into my car, or could I go with just 1 on the passenger side as what came with my car originally. any opinions or ideas about this one............thanx Fred:confused: Quote
Young Ed Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 As I understand it from the readings I've done on plymouths there were 3 heaters. The model 36 which was cheapest and then just recirculated. Then the 53 & 54 which used the fresh air system. I believe you could get just the pass side one with the fresh air system or upgrade to both sides. Let me know if you decide to pass on using the drivers side one. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Dear Fred, I am not sure about more than one heater, I have seen dual heaters (one Big one), with heater duct to the drivers side. I'm sure its been done though. By the way are you going to use your Cowl gear sprocket armature that has a stop on it coming out of the side (that is to say) up to the cowl to the srocket (the armature with the angled stop on it) mine is bent badly and I'm looking for a replacement. If not fine, however, if you don't need that particular bracket/armature, I would be very interested it purchasing it from you. Tom Skinner (704) 400-1284 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 I would think you could use only one heater. My car had two heaters when I got it. Took them both out, and found the model 54 with the fan. Only put one back in - on the right. Perhaps the question is: how cold is it where you are, and how much winter time driving will you possibly do??? You could always start with one, and install the second one later if needed. My heater looks like this. Quote
55 Fargo Posted April 19, 2007 Author Report Posted April 19, 2007 That was kind of my thinking also Bob, It would never be winter driven, and in spring and fall, one heater would be adequate, will try the one with the fresh air system, it is the model 54, then add number 2 if necessary. Last night, I removed the drivers side heater, I even tested the core, no leaking,, and the motor ran fine on the bench, but the housing is real dirty and has a little rust on it. I will clean everything up and paint it.Tom I will see what I can find for you, and let you know...........Fred Quote
UKPlymouth Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 I have a right hand drive car. I need a heater that fits in the left hand footwell.- not sure if it is type 53 or 54. Does anyone have a heater that they want to sell ? Quote
RobertKB Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Years ago when I was restoring my '48 D25 coupe I bought a parts car sedan which had the two heaters in it. I still have both heaters as my coupe had the single heater which worked fine. With just the single heater I have driven my car when it is -18C (0F) and been nice and toasty. I would just go with the one and if you're not driving in the winter you should be fine. My '53 Plymouth and '38 Chrysler both have single heaters and the cars are warm in colder weather. The only other Mopar I know of with double heater is a '47 Chrysler limousine that used to be the local city ambulance and that I am presently helping to restore. With a car that size you would need two heaters. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 ....from the parts manual. Has the fresh air system. Also pic of a dual control valve. Quote
UKPlymouth Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Bob, Do you still have the other heater that you took out? I am looking for a heater for my RHD car. Quote
