old rat 49 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Trying to get the old rust bucket on the road. Missing one of the connectors that goes on brake light switch. Can I use a bullet connector on it ? It has two large male connectors on it and only one female present on old wiring. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I was able to find a connector that was correct at a large hardware store . Quote
old rat 49 Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 That worked Rick. Thanks. Quote
T120 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 The proper mating female connector actually kind of "clicks" into place ensuring a snug connection that won't wiggle loose and become intermittent. My $.02... Quote
deathbound Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 The switch should also have 2 small metal clips that slide thru the female bullets & catch the recess in the male bullets on the wiring harness to lock them in. Kinda what Ralph D25cpe said. Quote
old rat 49 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 The last two are correct but where can you get them. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 They are just bullet connectors. Auto parts or hardware stores all carry them. Bring the switch with you if you can as there are wire sizes and different sizes of bullets. Quote
deathbound Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) Male bullet size is .157 & either 14ga or 16ga......as far as the 2 clips-they usually come with the brake switch. I have seen some replacement brake switches that don't require the clips, the bullets snap in like a typical connector. Edited January 10, 2012 by deathbound Quote
T120 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) I agree, the description is correct, they are called bullet connectors - not butt connectors, which are used for splicing wire. Edited January 10, 2012 by Ralph D25cpe Quote
