Bingster Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Any ideas how to free up a stuck antenna? I have dual antenna's and I freed up one but the other is quite stuck. Have tried WD-40, heat, channel locks, etc. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Hmmm.....a definite problem. You, of course, have to be somewhat cautious as the older hollow type antennas are a bit fragile. Is there any way to get under the little knob on the end with a small pair of vice grips, or is it down against the next, larger, section where you can't get under it? I was thinking if you could get something below the knob, then tap that item gently with a small hammer. Or.........can you see any of the bottom end of the antenna from inside the trunk? Is it still on the car? If so, would it help to remove it? I don't have any sure fire suggestions, but I would try various things were it mine. Quote
1955 plymouth Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) soak it in cider... Edited December 30, 2011 by 1955 plymouth sp Quote
1955 plymouth Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) In cider? sorry bingster, just a joke that popped to mind...listen to yourself say it. "soak it in cider" who knows, it might actually work. Edited December 30, 2011 by 1955 plymouth Quote
Bingster Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 I thought maybe it was one of those "sounds crazy but it works" remedies. It didn't! Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I recently read about a 1926 Nash, which had a stuck engine. The owner soaked the cylinders in Coca Cola - He poured soda in through the plug holes and let it sit some days. The engine was released free! He had been advised by some old timer to do so. Afterwards he washed the engine by water, petroleum and thin oil. Even the compression rings were released and he got decent compression pressure in each cylinder. As a result he claims that the 85 yrs old engine has never been opened since it was assembled in Kenosha. The Nash has been serving her duty in northern Finland (Lappland) in the 30's, still in Finland. Quote
Bingster Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 Yes, that Coca-Cola trick is what was in the back of my mind for this cider thing. And no, I didn't really try the cider! Quote
T120 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 On using Coca Cola to free stuck engines,I would claim to reside in Missouri Quote
old stovebolt Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Any ideas how to free up a stuck antenna?I have dual antenna's and I freed up one but the other is quite stuck. Have tried WD-40, heat, channel locks, etc. If it is out of the car, try warming up the metal tube with a low flame. The outer tub should expand and free up. Quote
Bingster Posted December 31, 2011 Author Report Posted December 31, 2011 I tried that but it didn't budge. And I think the thin wire part of the antenna is solid stainless steel. Why would the car have two antenna's anyway? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Because ------- it looks, cool, man. There was a lot of that dual antenna stuff during the 50s. Lots of Mopar cars used duals from the factory. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Bob Bob Bob why must you tease me with those? I love those cheaper model 56s. I think they have a better color break than the custom royal which looks like the check mark down the side. Quote
OldDad67 Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 I think I would use a heat gun instead of open flame. Then add some PB Blaster and let it soak in, then try reheating gently. These things are very fragile. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Bingster, is yours a factory antenna, or an aftermarket one? Some are easy enough to find a replacement nos one.....others not so easy. Got a picture? Quote
Bingster Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 I believe they are factory. I'll see if I can get a photo. Quote
