Good question, as both types will actually work on an original type

wheel.

I prefer a 6.70 x 15 tire on my 15 inch rims.

I like a P 215 x 15 radial for size in relation to the fender wells.

Not sure on the 16 rim.....anywhere from a 600 to a 700x16 bias

ply I think.

Some time during either 47 or 48 they switched from 16" to 15" rims on the P15....

your choices for white walls and price are dependent upon your intended use of the vehicleand if you are staying with bias or going to a radial..how deep are your pockets..and are you showing the car for points or going to actually drive the thing often..one of the larger seller of these WWW's are not worth mounting IMO if you intend on driving the car...radials will be a bit expensive and the WWW's are vulcanized on after the fact and you buy name brand late model designs..I WOULD NOT over look a visit to the Lucas website..

a search on this subject here will get a variey of comments and companies to research a bit...of course, same can be had by typing in wide white wall tires on an internet search engine..

6.50 was the optional size back in the day. Cocker or UNIVERSAL are expensive. Some body used 215 85 16's origianlly speced for chevy Dually pick up rears, but they may a bit stiff for passenger car use.

Some fellow I talked to not long ago, owner of a 47 DeSoto sedan, said

he found his narrow stripe, whitewall radials at WalMart for (I think) maybe

$65 or so apiece. But not sure about that cost. I don't know what size

his tires were.

I will be selling my coker 16 inch wide whites in a few months 10M miles on them. Switching to 15 inch. Reason is a simple one. i love the looks and handling of the 16 inch radials, the problem is I like long haul trips on and off the interstate. In my opinion the 16 inch wheels have too much hub bend and vibration) for smooth highway cruising 65 mph plus

What size, besides 16"? I may be interested, depending on $$ & your location, if shipping isn't too pricey.
