Roadkingcoupe Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Beautiful vehicle right down to the correct and original lighter. I am not sure where the numbers are derived from with XX# of cars known to exist. For example in the ad he/she states: "668 with Only 42 known left to exist......" Which is weird because I know of 3 in my area alone or about 8% of the "known to exist cars". It is possible that the #'s of known vehicles is coming from the POC registry but that is limited as most owners do not belong to the POC. For example I know of two FOUR door Convertible Plymouth's in this area and it is far more rare then the Convertible coupe. So my guess is that the known to exist #'s are at least half of whats out there or LESS Don't misunderstand.......it is a beautiful vehicle that anyone would be lucky to own. Just wonder about the accuracy of the "668 with Only 42 known left to exist......" Quote

Just wonder about the accuracy of the "668 with Only 42 known left to exist......" It is a beautiful car...According to a book I have , "Standard Catalogue of Chrysler 1924-1990", the Prod. total for the 1939 P8 2/4P Conv. Coupe is listed as 5,976.Not sure if all were equipped with a rumble seat although 2/4P would indicate such. There's no breakdown of those equipped with a rumble seat, maybe the figure 668 is correct.Perhaps some convertibles were only 2 passenger? They list the 1939 P8 2/4 RS Coupe with a Prod total of 1,332...Only 387 of the 1939 P8 Conv. 4 Dr Sedan were built. Roadkingcoupe Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 I thought every single 1939 Plymouth Convertible Coupe WAS a Rumble seat vehicle. As far as I remember there were no Convertible Coupes SANS Rumble Seat. 1939 was an interesting year for the Plymouth FOUR door convertible sedan. Since Dodge Chrysler and Desoto did not have a 4 door convertible sedan the junior Plymouths were the only Chrysler vehicle for 1939 with a 4 door sedan convertible. The 1939 Worlds fair had celebrities and dignitaries ushered around the grounds in a fleet of 1939 P8 4 door sedan convertibles with special worlds fair decals. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR4bZI8KfQfyzJjDOsn2hjRiqLlzLAYWrLeTXhRgkaksNMheEMts97zhIhzog Quote
T120 Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 ..Well then,I guess the owner was a bit out on his production figure Quote
Jim Benjaminson Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 All '39 Plymouth convertibles had rumble seats. In fact, '39 was the last year for the rumble seat and first year for the power top. And there were a lot more than 600+ built as noted in an earlier post. In fact, the Plymouth Club registry presently accounts for 60 convertibles still in existence.... Quote
greg g Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Since all registries depend on owners actually submitting their information to these lists, and knowing first that some one is keeping a registry, it seems that the "known to exist" phrase puts a lot of onus the "known" part, like who knows I have one, and who should I report it to so everyone knows, and do I really want folks to know what I got. Some folks don't. So if the POC registry is not the registry the seller might quoting, who knows how may there are still left, as the POC is not a widely know curator of registries, nor would it be by virtue of its title be any more accurate than any other that may be out there. How many folks here have reported any of your vehicles to any registries??? Quote
