95ttoplt1 Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 For a 1953 B4b 108wb 1/2 ton 2wd 218cid L6 Hey guys I know there is a couple threads on heat shields and vapor lock ect, but when I bought my truck the heat shield was sitting in the seat and I was wondering where it bolts on? Also if someone has pictures of a correct resto picture of a 53 or similar engine bay that would be a huge help to getting it back together right. Thanks Troy Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 At the top end there is a slotted hole to slide under the end nut and washer on the manifold, the other end has a small hole that fits on a long screw sticking up from the fuel pump. Looking down at it from the passenger side of the motor, the screw would be at the 9 o'clock position or furthest to the rear of the motor. Quote

I was trying to mount it 90 degrees off, no wonder LOL Quote
Young Ed Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Its a little hard to see as I painted it silver(I think it should be black) but here it is. The trucks have a different fuel pump typically with a slightly different arrangement for the stud etc Quote

Young Ed Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Great thanks! Is that the correct color for the oil filter housing I think mine is a Fram and I'm not sure what colors it would have been but thats very close to what the mopar ones looked like. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 There is a paint color guide located on the main webpage that supports this P-15, D-24 forum. http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/framesets/welcomeframeset.html Quote
Young Ed Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Hmm that shows the oil filter as black. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Were all oil filters an option when these cars were new? How many were factory installed? How many were dealer installed? How many were installed at the corner gas station/repair shop? How many were installed by the owner? How many were never installed? Quote

How many were installed at the corner gas station/repair shop? How many were installed by the owner? How many were never installed? Yes they were an option. However I believe if you went to the mopar dealership parts counter for one it was cream and red like mine. If you went to the 40s equivalent of Napa, autozone etc who knows what color you got. I'm sure that would vary by brand. And yes lots were never installed. There is a guy in our car club with a 55 plymouth 6cyl automatic that does not have one. His car is a low miles all original car and still runs great. Quote

My guess is that if you got one from the factory as a factory option they were all the same color whatever that color may have been. If you got one from a dealership it was pot luck on color as the dealers would buy from the least expensive source. And that source could have been the auto parts store on the next corner or the guy in a pick-up truck with the bed filled with oil filters fresh off the box car at the local railroad siding. Quote
JohnTeee Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Troy, You just reminded me that I had another part to paint . . . the fuel pump heat shield! Head is milled and painted, valve covers are getting coats of paint and now the heat shield has joined the headers and getting painted (black for the heat shield and silver for the headers). Cheers! 54Illinois Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 The two 54's I have both were black, with the orange Chrysler sticker on it. Quote
