carmen142 Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 What do you guys use for your outside mirrors? I have a 41 Special Delux. I already have those small tiny round ones on the car, but I would like to have something a little bigger. Also isnt there a better way to attach them to the door rather than with those little allen screws? Pictures would be nice. Thanks Carmen Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 often you can find a decent set of swan neck mirrors in a set on E-bay.,,not long back they had these for a buy it now of 26.00 or there about..just about impossible to go wrong..the folks here that bought them were quite happy with the quality and quick deliverly.. greg g Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 I have seen mostly the ones that clamp onto the door/doors. MOPAR had a mirror that was part of the little cowl trim piece, They are available but rare ad expensive, and you can't see the pass side one fromt he drivers position. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 If you're not a real stickler for "originality" you can probably find a newer type mirror like this one. Screws onto the door. Mine is used, bought at a swap met The trick is to make sure the shaft part is long enough so you can see around the bulge in the side of the car towards the rear. Quote
1940plymouth Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 Carmen, This is what I have. A friend of mine gave it to me when I first got the car. Works good enough to suit me Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 They also make a rectangular clip-on-the-door mirror with set screws. They occasionally turn up on ebay. There's an even cooler than usual one on right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1940-s-Vintage-Accessory-Door-Mount-Rear-View-Mirror-/130589653083?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item1e67bff85b Quote
carls 49 Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 they come (peep mirrors) in different sizes. also clamp or bolt on. don't want to drill into sheet metal , so got the clamp on type on my 49. Quote
carmen142 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Report Posted October 28, 2011 Thanks guys. I kind of like the one that BobT has on his ride. While I know that you have to drill a little hold in the sheet metal, I think that it makes it look like it came with the car rather than having something that was added to it. Carmen Quote
Robin (UK) Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Hi Carmen, I use So-Cal Speed Shop swan-necks on my convertible. Yes, you've gotta drill the doors, but they are solid, so don't shake like the clip-ons. I have a 4" convex mirror stuck on the passenger side, to provide a wider viewing angle. Thoroughly recommend this set-up. Quote
carmen142 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Report Posted October 28, 2011 Now I like that one too. I don't mind drilling into the doors. As you said they are solid. The clip-on ones after a little while they become lose. Quote
martybose Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I've got SoCal Swan necks on my 47, and I just drilled out one of the holes for the original mirrors to install them. Marty Quote
