ggdad1951 Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 anyone have a good source for the plug that goes in the top hole/what have you done? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Are you talking about this one? 1.800" dia. It's a item usually never taken out. Soft plug will work put in backwards. If you have a fluid drive housing thin tin top plug, one out of a FD car bell housing will probably work. Bob Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Maybe try a knockout hole plug for electrical boxes. Should be able to find them at a hardware store, but maybe not in that size. Otherwise check with an electrical supplier. Merle Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 yep, mine was gone....pipe end plugs/caps are not the right size....what kind of "soft plug" are you talking about? Engine freeze plugs-http://www.dormanproducts.com/catalog/ExpansionPlugApps.pdf. They can be slightly expanded in your case up to maybe .030-.060" with a large socket forced into the cup and slightly flare it so it will fit the hole in your bell housing- if you are not able to find the correct fit. There are many types to choose from in both metric and SAE sizes. I think the factory plug is a shallow cup freeze plug insatlled backwards in the bell housing-though not positive as I have never removed these plugs when hot tanking the housings Quote

I'm thinking I might machine up an aluminum plug to snap in with an o-ring to "seal" it. Quote

John-T-53 Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 Doesn't have to be waterproof...just to keep dust out. I think this hole allows you to acess the clutch cover bolts from the top if desired. Quote
