ferdball Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 So I just fired up an old 48 and drove it around the block using the e-brake to slow me down, it RAN beautifully, even honked the horn!..I then pulled it back in the driveway and turned it off for a but then tried to fire it back up with no luck. then I noticed that the horn did not work anymore nor any gauges or lights.... Figured I blew a fuse......but I cant find any fuses!??? Can anyone shed some light on this while I go to look for a wiring diagram. thanks in advance! Quote
ggdad1951 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) dead battery is my guess, these had no fuses in the 6V systems? Edited August 17, 2011 by ggdad1951 Quote
ferdball Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 no dead battery, I can crank it over and it's a brand new battery but no fire up, lights, horn etc...??? Quote
greg g Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 check the back of the headlamp fuse there should be a 30 amp fuse. Also check the connection from the battery to the solenoid or the the starter. Quote
Dave72dt Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Check for power on both sides of the amp gauge. You've got power to the starter since it turns over. The rest of the system is fed through a smaller 10 gauge wire that goes to the amp gauge. The horn should work if the amp gauge is letting power through. Power for the ignition switch goes through the light switch and there may be a fuse in it. Wiring diagram can be found by visiting the DPETCA site (banner, top of page)and from there to Pilots knowledge. Scroll down some, you'll find a diagram heading. Quote
ferdball Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 Not 100% sure what I did but wiggling the wires around by the starter seemed to do the trick. Thanks everyone for your help. It's fixed enough to get it in and out of the garage to fix the brakes. Next project I guess will bt to rewire this old beast. Quote
B1B Keven Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 I hate those kind of fixes. Glad to hear another one is headed for the road. Quote
