Robert Horne Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I finally got the 38 driveable with new tires, brakes working very good, etc. My wife and I went visiting friends this evening. The little 38 is not all that pretty, but it runs good. Quote
aero3113 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Looks like you have a nice and solid 38,she will be looking even better in no time. Quote
greg g Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 running and drivin that says all ya pretty much need to say. Quote
1940plymouth Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Drive it and enjoy for the rest of the season, it is looking darn good to me, congrats on having it on the road Quote
JoelOkie Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I'd be proud to drive it just the way it looks....nice going Bob. Joel Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Glad you are on the road. Is this the one with the 5 speed? Quote
Robert Horne Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 This year I just want to drive it with the 3 speed and 36 engine. The 5 speed and 56 engine are about all together, for a later install. I will take the front fenders, hood, etc. off later and do more body work. Quote
greg g Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Looking at the picture suggests that there seems to be a lot of metal in the front end. Quote
Robert Horne Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 I used the better body parts from the two 38s that I bought. The frame, and radiator section from the delux 38, and the body from the Business model. All the front fenders need about 4 inchs of metal add to the bottom. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 I love a coupe, your on the road that's what matters. The other stuff will come. Quote
Robert Horne Posted August 19, 2011 Author Report Posted August 19, 2011 The 3 speed trans locked in second gear the other day not far from home. I got it driveable again today. I have to be more careful changing gears. Today's test rum was good. The more I drive it, the better the brakes have become. The brakes were my biggest worry. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 Where can I sign up to test rum? I typically drink Bicardi but maybe there's something better out there! Quote
Robert Horne Posted August 21, 2011 Author Report Posted August 21, 2011 I do not Drink and Drive, but I am known to drink a beer and type. Type poorly I might add. Quote
Robert Horne Posted October 22, 2011 Author Report Posted October 22, 2011 My wife and I put a few miles on the 38 today. My speedometer works but not the odometer, so do not know how many miles. Cruises 30 to 40 MPH very good. I will have to put on a muffler soon. Has exhaust pipe all the way to the rear bumper, but no muffler. Car ran 140 degree on a 60 degree day. I need to install a thermostat for sure. The 3 speed trans is very difficult, but will do until I install the 5 speed Ranger trans. I am amazed how well the car rides, and steers with the original suspension. Quote
