Lou Earle Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Here is my :uprgaded" sending unit. I had changed the sending unit in Son's Mustang and noticed the float was/is good. So I attached it to the old unit using thin copper wire and solder. I had befroe uesd a carb float on the 48 dodge unit and it works fine. And I did it on an A model Ford. Anyway be interesting to see if the unit works Lou Quote
Young Ed Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Good deal Lou. My p15 has a float from my 94 dakotas old sending unit. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 The float on my P15 was also gone when I bought the car. Did a similar thing with it. Only difference was I used a float out of a 4 barrel carb to solder onto the arm. It's still working and that was in 1995. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 And they say old cars are bad for the environment. Look-3 perfect examples of recycling! Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I cant believe all you folks are using non stock parts. Hope you know you will lose points when your cars are judged. Quote
Brendan D25 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Looking at the picture of the sending unit, I wonder if one from a VW bug would work, they look similar and were six volt up to 1968. Quote

Don't think it will work. I just checked them online and they look like a one wire hook up. You need a two wire hook up on the P15. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Don by the time my car is nice enough to be judged it will need another sending until float! Quote
TodFitch Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 . . . So I attached it to the old unit using thin copper wire and solder. . . . I can't believe you did not use JB Weld. Quote

FMSPEED49 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I broke apart a cheap gas mower fuel cap w/ the spinning float, and slid the float on to the bar and bent the end of the bar, plstic, bout 6 bucks at walmart, works like a charm. Quote
