K_Jordan Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 I think I'm a little late doing this, but here goes. My name is Kevin, I'm from Winston Salem NC. I bought a 1948 P-15 Sedan a few months back. I've done a lot of work on it so far (new tranny, new drive shaft, Rewired, New rocker panels, Repaied the hood and trunk, New floor, started the body work). I recently got tags and have been able to drive around town a bit. I even entered my first show Heavy Rebel Weekender and made the local paper my first time out. Im doing this build with the help of my dad, grandpa and numerous friends. Like I said Ive been able to drive around for the past three weeks and I just saw a large crack in my rear axle. The question I have for you guys is can these axles be welded back together and still be safe? Or should I try to find another P-15 rear end or a later model rear end(preferably mopar) to Quote
Young Ed Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 In the axle or axle housing? The axle housing yes axle itself probably not Quote
1940plymouth Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Kevin, Welcome to the best forum there is. If you mean the axle itself, contact Dave at Fat Fendered Relics, he may have a good replacement one for you. I got my tranny from him about three years ago, he is a good man to deal with, not to mention his prices are very reasonable. When you get a chance, sure would like to see some photos of your car, always enjoy seeing photos of other members old MOPARs. Good luck, Bob Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Welcome, Kevin. You sure have made lots of progress and improvements on the car. Congrats on getting some press - always nice to receive some recognition. If you haven't tried it yet, you can get answers to some questions by looking up previous posts on a given topic thru the "search forum" function in the upper right corner. You may have to put in searches in several different ways to find something useful. These old cars always seem to present some sort of question. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 Hi Kevin, Welcome to the best Mopar flathead site on the WWW. Enjoy your stay. Nice looking car. Tom Quote

randroid Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 K_Jordan, Sasha Monroe? Did the rear-end sway before you replaced the shocks? I call my '48 P-15 More Door by the moniker of "Pigiron" because that's the lowest form of iron and the only name I've called her that I can repeat in public. Nice looking car and the work you've done looks great. Is white going to be the final color or do you have something else in mind? Just curious because me painting Pigiron is almost a standing joke on this forum. Welcome and enjoy! -Randy Quote
K_Jordan Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 Randy The name Sasha Monroe came from a character played by actress Nia Long (my future wife). Ive named all of my cars after her characters. As for the rear end it didnt sway at all while driving. Right now its just in primer since I still have a lot of body work to do. But Im thinking of painting her burgandy with a satin finish. Quote
