jorswift Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Hello all, Just bought a 1948 Plymouth Special Delux 2 door sedan. Car is awesome. It is completely original except for brakes and paint. The car runs and drives good. I am new to the vintage/hot rod world, but been around it some time from my father-inlaw and friends/family. Are there some things I need to be careful about and need to know about? I am excited to get this and start cruising. Thanks. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 There is lots of good information in the technical tips section. Much of the frequently asked about stuff is addressed there. Quote
Labrauer Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Welcome to the forum you will find a lot of good information here and more than that you will find a lot of good people here also. There is nothing like a Plymouth car or a Dodge truck. They are the best built in the world I think but I am kind of one way on this. I have owned just about all different kinds of cars and trucks but always come back to the Plymouth side. Good luck with your car and have fun. Larry Brauer;) Quote
boxer_inv Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 What should have been said by the first responder to your first message is "WELCOME ABOARD!!" This is a great forum and you will find it, and the members, the most valuable resource for the old girl you now own. Yes, we'd love to know where you hail from and we all love pics... Plenty of information, search the threads, read the main web page, but don't be afraid to ask the silliest questions you need to. I do......and I'm more informed because of it. Again - welcome. Rob. Don Coatney Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Thanks all. I thought I might be in the dark with the car, but since I found this forum, its a whole new game! Im from Indiana. I will post pics as soon as I can get some uploaded. I was born a Hoosier. There are several forum members in Indiana. What part of the state are you in? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Welcome to the forum! Its good to see another 2 door sedan has survived in Hoosierdom. Also, good to see someone interested in keeping his car "the way its supposed to be". I'm up here in the region, where are you? Quote
49 Dodge Dude Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Careful - once you get bit by the classic car bug, there is no cure (and we don't want any!) Welcome to the site! Quote
jorswift Posted June 9, 2011 Author Report Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) I am in Grant County region. Here are some pics I took as soon as I got her home! Edited December 4, 2017 by jorswift Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Looks good! What drivetrain and suspension is in this car? Quote
jorswift Posted June 9, 2011 Author Report Posted June 9, 2011 I have no idea what suspension and drivetrain. It has 3 on the column. How can I tell what suspension? Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Nice car. Looks like it's in great shape. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 I have no idea what suspension and drivetrain. It has 3 on the column. How can I tell what suspension? Guess you need to do an inspection. What engine is in the car? Quote
jorswift Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 I will have to check out be engine next time I get to the car. Yes, the rims/tires are ugly. I would like to get a new set of rims and some white walls. Quote
jorswift Posted June 11, 2011 Author Report Posted June 11, 2011 I tried to look at the engine numbers and read 15-IO295I8...Hope that is correct Quote
TodFitch Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 P15-io295i8 That is probably a P15-1029518 with the P15 being the engineering code for the vehicle the engine went into (a 1946-48 Plymouth for P15) and 1029518 being the sequence number, starting from 1001, of the engine in that series. I seem to have misplaced my engine number information so I can't tell you what year or part of year that engine number is probably from. But since you have it in a 1948 P15 Plymouth there is a reasonable chance the engine is original to the car. It is certainly the correct type of engine for the car as far as Plymouth club judging is concerned as the engineering code matches. Quote
1947PLEVY Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 If you could find the wire baskets that go with the rims would make it look alot different.. OOPS welcome and it doesn't look like you have too much work ahead of you..God Bless US All...John Quote
jorswift Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 I dont have the wire baskets for the rims. Bummer Quote
