azmichael1 Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 I recently removed the bowl type fuel pump on my '48 p-15 and replaced it with a 6 volt electric fuel pump and want to cover the opening where the fuel pump arm goes into the engine.............does anyone know where I can get one of those cover plates ? Thanks Mike Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 If you can't find one , you can make one . I used a cover for an electrical box . It was 3 or 4 inches square and heavy steel . Cheap too . Common hardware store item . Quote
DonaldSmith Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 If you add a cover that's thinner than the flanges of the fuel pump, use shorter bolts. Otherwise they might get hit by the cam lobe. (Don't ask me how I know.) Quote
james curl Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I think Speedway has them as well as Jegs and Summit. Quote
Robert Horne Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I made one from 1/4 inch thick aluminum. I was thinking of making one of 1/4 thick clear fiberglass as a "sightglass" like my cycle has. Quote

Niel Hoback Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Maybe a clear window with a small light behind it? Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Maybe a clear window with a small light behind it? Good idea to add a windshield wiper too. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Maybe a clear window with a small light behind it? The "the musketeers" who ran Chrysler's engineering department in the 20s and 30s actually did that back when they all worked for Studebaker. That is how they found out that the dippers on splash feed lubrication systems were totally inadequate and why all their designs had full pressure lubrication. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 That settles it. I'm doin' it! Put a hunnert watter in there and I won't need a block heater either! Quote
