We are planning to drive in our villages Memorial Day parade tomorrow. There are usually a dozen or so vehicles involved other then the convertibles the local elected yahoos ride in. Most folks toss candy to the kids along the route, but we get some dog bisquits and toss them to the dogs along the way. The kids are spoiled and the dogs are more appreciative.

Our parade easy as 3/4 of it is downgrade and the car just coasts along. I don't even start mine till just before the short uphill section to the end.

Unfortunately there is no parking area set aside for folks at the end so everybody just disperses.

Remeber our veterans and current service members.

Everybody have a safe holiday.

Greg,

Sounds like fun. I appreciate the dog biscuits instead of candy for both the reasons you cited, but is it just you who does that or is it the entire parade?

Freehold always has a nice Memorial Day parade that goes about a mile and a half through our downtown section. We draw entrants from organizations all over Monmouth County.

My son is in the HS marching band and tomorrow will be his last one because he graduates in June.

Enjoy the Holiday and don't forget what it represents.

Our city parade is the oldest in the state. This will be our 93rd year. I can remember being in the parade with the cub scouts, boy scouts, elementary, junior high, and high school bands. My son did the same with the school bands. Now, his unit leads the parade. He's in the Police Honor Guard. At the end of the parade, they do the 21 gun salute and the flag ceremony.

Have a happy and safe holiday.

Just us with the dog treats, they have asked folks to stop throwing candy because it's "dangerous", but no one heeds the request.

I used to do the parades and throw candy. We really enjoyed it. It got pretty expensive. One woman with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other stuck her head up to my window and berated me for not throwing "enough" candy to her kid. That was my last time at that parade and I quit the candy all together. I have often said if I had a candy "sponsor" I could put their name on the car and throw their candy............Tim
