Drdialtone Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 A very nice car meet with original/restored cars from 1900 - 1949. I was the only P-15 there, but there were a couple of Chryslers and DeSotos too. What I found most interesting was the over all theme was 40's era, but most of the cars were much older. Lot's of military vehicles from WWII and a trio of singers doing Andrews Sisters' tunes was a really nice touch. Here are some pictures from the event: http://gallery.me.com/drdialtone#101363&bgcolor=black&view=grid Quote
TodFitch Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Looks like it was a good event. Too bad I'm still digging out from a lot of deferred chores at home. Teens, twenties, thirties and forties cars with a 1959 and newer flag? It would seem like they could have found a 48 star flag for the the stage. Quote
1940plymouth Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Thanks for posting the photos, really enjoyed seeing them, especially the Airflow, Studebaker pickup and what appears to be a "Barn Fresh" Cord Quote
RobertKB Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Kirk, thanks for posting those. It is great to see a car show with no rods in it. Those cars are wonderful examples of automotive history. I just love the cars restored to original or close to. Your car is looking great by the way. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 You should be proud! Nice car and nice pics! Tom Quote

HA! Part of the event description was "...bring your cars from barn discovery to showroom classic." Amazingly the Cord was running. The Studebaker pickup was beautiful as well. Quote
Drdialtone Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 You should be proud! Nice car and nice pics!Tom Thanks Tom! I do love the car. And was rather proud to have "driven in" from 70 miles away. Many if not most arrive on trailers. It was a fun event, especially since the hot rod numbers were very few. So few car shows out here that are not mostly customs. Having a show with restored/original cars is a real treat. There is an upcoming Mopar event in San Jose, but it's mostly muscle cars. The 218 flathead, at least mine, is strong, but not muscular!! Quote

desoto1939 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 In 1934 Desoto only produced airflow model there was no other style offered in the deSoto lineup. This is even rarer because of being the coupe model. Yes drop dead gourgeous. The Desoto Airflows had the inline 6 were as the chrylers had the inline 8s. I would love to own this car or a 33 Desoto sometime in my life, just dreaming. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Drdialtone Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 The guy who own it had an ear-to-ear grin, so I'm guessing he's lovin' it!!! Quote

Or maybe Hayward if East Bay. Where are you located? And you are welcome to come along on the Plymouth Club tours out of the Bay Area. Your P15 is a little new but "Antique Cars at History Park" in September in San Jose's History Park is a good event. The restriction is that the cars have to be in a condition that was possible as of 1945. Since the event is coordinated by the Model T Ford Club of Santa Clara County they really don't know the difference between a P14 (acceptable) and a P15 (too new) so a number of P15 cars have attended. And the admittance is free with your car. http://www.scvmtfc.org/aahp/AAHP%20Flyer%202011.jpg Quote
Drdialtone Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 Todd, thanks, looks fun, with the added excitement of "sneaking in." I'm by Mills College in Oakland. I think the official milage was 67 from door to the north side of Santa Rosa. Where are you at? Quote

Another event closer to you on the same day is put on by the Art Deco Society at the Dunsmuir estate in Oakland. Their cutoff on cars is 1942. And there is a fee. My wife and I went a couple of times back when driving a car in got you free admission but they have enough cars now that they can be picky. http://www.artdecosociety.org/gatsby/ Quote

I work in Cupertino, and sometimes drive the Plymouth to work. Maybe we could meet for lunch sometime. I just found out about the Dunsmuir event, which is three exits down 580 from my house. Too bad about the date range, otherwise I'd go. The grounds are great and there have been events of other nature there too. They "had" a small but nice Scottish Highland Games there, but have now disbanded. Parking was always problematic there. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Tod, Hey! I work in Cupertino, and sometimes drive the Plymouth to work. Maybe we could meet for lunch sometime. PM me with your contact info. I'll need to know when would be a good time a little in advance as I normally walk the two miles to work which puts a limit on distance when selecting restaurants. If I can plan in advance then I'll drive. Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 I love the photos, My dad had a 29 Durant model 60 about 20 years ago. Was a 4 door sedan but didn't have the side mounts. Had a Chrysler Flathead in it too. I wish I knew about the show, Would have been nice to been there. Quote

Adam H P15 D30 Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Thanks, I will do so. Only my 49 is not completely stock (close) and my 47 definately is not stock. Quote
Drdialtone Posted May 24, 2011 Author Report Posted May 24, 2011 Thanks, I will do so. Only my 49 is not completely stock (close) and my 47 definately is not stock. They were somewhat loose about the stock situation. Some of the cars were moderately modified under the hood. I believe they are just trying to keep the event as close to stock as possible, and avoid the wild customs that are at most of the other shows. There was a Ford woodie wagon that was significantly modified there, but I think that they "got it" since all of the other cars were stock! Quote
Jim Benjaminson Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 In case you guys don't realize it - that Stoddard-Dayton is a Chrysler predecessor -- its in the family tree. They were high-dollar, high-quality cars that got dragged down in the United Motors debacle. Only survivor of that combine was the Maxwell...... Quote
Al B. Bach Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Thanks for the pics. Looks like a great show! Quote

I think that it is fascinating which cars got gobbled up by the bigger guys on the block. I have a friend who has two 1929 Oaklands. Part of GM, the Oakland stopped production in 1931 to be taken over by Pontiac. Much of American automotive history like that! Quote
