michael.warshaw Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 lookin' good. When do you get the keys? id say about 1 month maybe a little longer Quote
RobertKB Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Looks good, Michael. Thanks for posting. To resize them the simplest way to do it is save them in a storage site like Photobucket. It automatically resizes them and then you just go to the yellow mountain when you post a thread and copy the URL from Photobucket in there after deleting the http. which is in your URL anyway. Try it, you might like it. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Something on your throttle linkage does not look right. Might be due to the unclear picture or the fact you have not yet installed the throttle return spring. When you push the gas pedal is there smooth action through the full movement? Here is a picture of a stock setup so you can see what it is supposed to look like. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 If viewers will recall, the easy way to make those pictures smaller is to go to the lower right corner of your screen and change the 100% figure to 50%. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 As an experiment - I copied the URL of the first photo, then put it into my PhotoBucket album, which downsized it. Now re-posting that pic. Quote

falconvan Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Very nice! Did you use fender welting when you put your rear fenders back on? Quote
michael.warshaw Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 no fender welting is it necessary? Quote
greg g Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Factory was a stailess rolled bead on a rubber impregnated canvas fabric. Should be there for stock appearence. Quote

RobertKB Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) I think they all came with the stainless steel welting. Many people, including myself, after removing fenders have used a black welting. It is cheaper and easier to find but not original. If you want the original look, you will need the stainless steel welting as Greg suggested. Use the search function and you should be able to find information on this as well as suppliers. You should definitely have some kind of welting there not just for appearance sake but also to stop any squeaking between fenders and the body. I kind of wish now that I had gone with the stainless as I think it looks smarter but this is what I had laying around from another project. Edited May 4, 2011 by RobertKB Quote
Kevinb71 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Looking nice car Mike! Not to hijack your thread, but Don in your picture of the linkage on the left hand side is that 'bracket" for the spring attached to the air cleaner brace? I tried to blow up the photo and that's what it looks like. My 49 Chrysler has nothing on the brace to attach the spring to and i have been trying to figure out what was factory. Once again the car is looking great! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) That little hook is welded onto the brace from the factory. I have my spring attached to a different place and don't use the hook. I guess not all cars had that, but used some different anchor for the spring. My engine is from a 1957 Plymouth, and I presume the linkage is also.....as you can see, the spring seems to attach at the rear of the head. Edited May 5, 2011 by BobT-47P15 Quote
Kevinb71 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Thanks Bob That looks more like what i must have had. I will check out more tonight. Thanks! Quote
greg g Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 There were several linkage layouts with different return spring locations. Some air cleaner braces had a hook, some had a notch some spring wet from the hook to a hole in the leaver some went ot the notch i the back of the lever. Some went to a metal fixture held by one of thsoe threaded head bolts bothe to the rear of the lever and to the front. When I added my dual carbs I did not want to alter my brace so I fabricated a piece to replace it, but not having the hook, I filed a notch to locate the spring. Like oilfilters , and u joints, hood braces, there were several permutations probably decided by what box of parts from what supplier was delivered to the assembly area. Quote
Kevinb71 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 It does seem like there is no clear standard for this, so I will just make something work for now. Right now the spring just goes to the carb and I don't like that as it puts all the wear on the throttle shaft. Thanks! Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I modified my air cleaner brace as pictured. Quote
greg g Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Hey Mikey, why did you let the shop mount your coil upside down?? Quote
Captain Neon Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Hey Mikey, why did you let the shop mount your coil upside down?? Would that constitute a point deduction, or less likelihood for the benefit of the doubt? Quote
