Scruffy49 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Want to come to west TN and shoehorn a 413-3/727 into a Pilot House truck? Along with the donor vehicle air over hydraulic brakes (and their axles)... A write up would be great. Current L6 project vehicle is actually staying L6, but, I know where there is another truck I could get cheap... Quote

PatS.... Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 This one been on the road 13 summers with paint and since 1989 with the 440. Ed, did you ever do a "How I did It Article on your install. I think I recall one about the time you did the disc brake article in a magazine. Which column and wheel are pictured??? What box is it hooked to?? Thanks Pat Quote
falconvan Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Looks great! That LeCarra Mark 10 is a great looking steering wheel for these old cars; I plan on using the same one. How did you get the factory Plymouth horn ring to work on it? Quote
Gary Manes Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 The main problem for everyone using the original frame/crossmember, steering box, etc. is the steering box vs. manifolds. How did you work around that?? I want to put in a 350/350 in my '48 Desoto, but have been blocked because no one around my area makes an exhaust manifold that is worth less than the whoe car. So, please, explain away what problems you ran into and your various solutions!! Quote
dndrodshop Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 LeCarra Wheel with Stock Horn Ring - My son makes a custom adapter for the LeCarra to P15 Horn Ring. He also made the Aluminum Sill Plates with the MOPAR Performance engraving. Originally used the stock exhaust manifolds from the '71 New Yorker. Now have block hugger headers from Sanderson. Ran 2-1/2" exhaust from a "box of bends" while on jack stands in my garage. (Lots of up and downs) '71 New Yorker Tilt/telo column hooked to a Caviler (GM) rack and pinion. Made my own mounts. gave us a little steering radius but its minor and workable. Used a Rear Sump truck oil pan to allow room for the rack. Front Shocks relocated. Photos have been posted on this site. Power disk brakes per my article. see at dndrodshop.com Set-back the firewall, hung the brakes on the firewall. Made my own engine mounts and cross member for the trans. E-body 8-3/4 rear mounted on stock P15 "never been off" springs. Power windows, shaved door handles, keyless entry (doors & trunk), gas filler in the trunk, v-butt windshield, smoothie front bumper, rolled rear pan with no rear bumper. Ran the stock radiator (puller fan) for several years until I won a custom radiator at a Goodguys show. Aries 2-door back seat fits without modifications (riser under front only) Using the buckets in the front but have a Dakota bench for my P15 Sedan Delivery. anyone want photos on anything or see be at Back to the '50's Minnesota. No Problems...just a lot of time. Quote
lanny haff Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I did a 51 dodge p/u using the front frame clip out of a 68 ply I had to modify the firewall cause the engine set back about 10" I also used a pinto flexible steering shaft because of the angle of the column. It worked well + I drove the truck for years. Quote
Mark Haymond Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I have a Dodge 318 in my 47 Plymouth project car with a rear sump. I can't locate a flexible dip stick anywhere. Where did you get one? Quote
dndrodshop Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Mine is the Big Block and I'm using a stock dipstick that came with the swap meet rear sump pan. Mopar must still have those if you will run stock. Custom is probably limited. Quote
