Well here is another ebay seller that has a very high priced toy. He has several Dinky 39 Chrysler metal cars for sell and he is asking, hold on to your socks $2850.

I did not even pay this much for my all original running 39 Desoto with a fresh rebuilt engine.

Some one must have a lot of cash that they want to part with. This seller has 3 cars list. So who ever buy the fire extingusher can now have seveal toy cars that they can put next to it.

Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/DINKY-TOYS-39E-CHRYSLER-ROYAL-SEDAN-TT-GREEN-RARE-/230588175847?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item35b02055e7

do a search on 39 Chrysler on ebay and you will be surprised.

There are a number of "Dinky" toy vendors at the car shows around here. In addition there are some at the "TOY" shows as well. If you look at this auctions there is a Chrysler Woody wagon that is priced at $125.

The world of toy collecting is baffling. Condition, color, rarity and production#'s determine value. The price for original MINT toys can be astronomical. The price for a repaint can be very low. The more "knowledge" one has the better off you will fare. Personally I just like the cars (or I dont) so a repaint for a fraction of the price is good (for me).

I am not sure Who? or Why? someone would spend that kind of money for a Dinky "toy" but at least there is no cost for insurance, storage, gas or maintenance.

A good friend of mine bought a "Pink" Hot wheels "rear loading" VW bus for $15,000 (not a misprint) and I thought he was crazy. For sure his wife lost her mind over the purchase. They are by no means wealthy people. BUT, he sold it a couple of years later for $24,000 and I had to tell him that he was right. Who would have known? In that case the rear loading bus was the most desireable and "PINK" was not a color that boys liked so it was the rarest and most sought after. Just think of how many ended up lost in the sand at the beach or in the backyard sandbox?

What I really wonder is if the "buyer" of a $2850 toy tells his wife...."hey honey look what I bought today" and even better "What does she reply?".............

Is this an example of "Highway Robbery", guess this vendor makes a living this way, probably at it as a full time, quick profit, no sweat equity job.

I can't see how it's highway robbery if it's a willing buyer for something he doesn't have to buy.

It would be different if he was broke down in the middle of the desert and got charged a grand for a glass of water.

Just a figure of speech there Sailor. We all know it's a free country, and folks can charge what they like for there merchandise, or shall I say try and charge what they like.

If anyone wants to buy or bid on this item, I say go for it, you will pay a lot of money for something if you want it bad enough.

I personally think this vendor's prices are over the top, but what do I know, maybe PT Barnum was right again.....

He certainly does sell a lot of Dinky toys with very few under a $100 and many in the $500-700 range. Seems to know what he wants price wise and gets it. Here is another one that he did sell in the same price range as the Chrysler. He will likely get close to what he wants for the '39 Chrysler.

What I would like to know is where does he find these toys?? He will make more money on that toy '39 Chrysler with than I do parting out entire cars and with a whole lot less work. I actually have lots of Dinky Toys and Matchbox Toys left from when I was a kid but none of them are worth a lot even though they are in nice shape.
