Went to Goodguys yesterday, spent most of my time in the flea market and car corral.

Ran across a really nice 51 or 52 Plymouth Bus Coupe (I think its called). Car's body mostly stock except for the Frenched antenna.

Wagon,

And one for sale, very cheap with 100 mile delivery included for gas cost only. But it needs tons of work, I mean every inch. But if I had room for it I would have bought it.

Then found my Prowler I sold almost two years ago. The new owner has kept it up very nice. Adding a bit of chrome to the engine bay.

The wagon I also agree is nice looking example...I believe the original paint is called Coral...and the Bz Cp...has a 52 lower hood lip..the hood was smoothed and the front emblem missing..this is the better way to identify a 51 from the 52... looking at the wiring loom exit at the body to engine compartment is next. Anyone know if the Bz Cp was built on the short 111 inch Concord wheel base or the larger 118??

That would be the short WB for the B coupe. Fastback wagon and B coupe are the 3 that used it.

Thanks..was thinking maybe it was the 111 incher...I have never seen a business coupe close up in this area where I live..these are more of a personal car than say the sedan or club coupe...I like the single seat but it limits you to you and one passenger for comfort.

That's a new one on me. I knew about the wire loom, but have never heard about the lower lip.

In any case it was the only plymouth at the show close to mine, except those wagons. Very clean car.

I'm tempted to call the guy about the wagon and push it in my back yard for later work.

Both 51 and 52 have the lower hood lip, on the 1951 this was cut with plastic red reflective letters inserted to read P L Y M O U T H at least on the known 51 models I have seen. 52 was supposedly solid metal with the indented letters chromed...

as another note..the hood emblem, flying ship is of the 51 model year.

Correct Tim. Doesn't show that well but you can kinda see that the red letters are sticking out through the metal.

Learn somthing everyday.

I did notice the hood emblem with wings too.

But I also did not know the 51 had letters sticking OUT of the lip. Mine were painted inside the lettering.

Tim,,,

Havent you heard da story??? How do 4 Texans ride in a single seat pee-cup???(OLD style)

I realize your a LONG way from Texas,,,but sometimes the stories float that far!!

Reminds me of the stories of how many kids you can pile in a car to get to the dance in the next town(back when cars and gas was precious)

All 3 hood ornaments are diff 51-52. The middle ornament with the plastic insert went from squarish to round for 52 also. And the trunk ornaments changed too from a seperate plymouth script to one incorporated in the license plate light bezel.

The 49 had the medallion in the lip....the meallion of the 50 and 51 are similar but a not interchangable and yes the 52 went round...do you know the story of the two characters on either side of the medallion?

I think my brochure at home shows that the 52 lip got the letters painted red...I can sned you a picture of the real deal lip withthe plastic letter cutouts...they are very nice really but the letters age badly..finding a nice set is very hard...(read that expensive) and yes the trunk is different in its Plymouth lettering also...with the 52 sharing the same license plate lens as the earlier suburbans even though the assemblies are a world apart in basic design.

1just4don...you may want to tell me about the 4 in 1 story....inquiring minds want to know.....

Here's the 50-51 trunklid. There are other differences too. 51s have black and white gauges with silver needles and 52 having silver with black #s and red needles. Not 100% sure on the 52s but they are certainly different. The 52 gauges carried through 53 and 54. The 51 has block lettering on the front fenders with the 52 having script. 51s have a front license plate holder and 52s have slots in the bumper. For cars all being lumped together as P23s there are lots of little differences!

Ed...from all I have observed over the years..your tan and blue car both have the earlier 51 decklids, go the the post above by jd52crankbrook and see the 52 rear trunk letters and light holder...his car is correct for 52 with that medallion and therear assembly...

As for the fender lettering..did you mean slanted instead of script...

Sorry Tim that was a typo I'll correct. The 51 fender names are block the 52 is slanted cursive etc.
