Joe did you not get one with your carb kit? I think at that price I'd see if they had an entire carb kit and just keep the rest for spare parts.

Just priced one of these from NAPA. A two day wait and something like 13 bucks when you throw in shipping. Has anyone ever fabricated this gasket and is that material available?

Napa on line list, #8531 as $2.49.............mounting gasket..........

O'reilly list my 2 barrel gasket, $1.69...........

Thanks, guys. The gasket is not reusable. I got it wet when I was washing the manifold prior to paint. It started delaminating badly. It's made up of several layers of what looks like cardboard. I noticed when the carb backfired, smoke came through the gasket. I know the notches are critical because of the port at the bottom of the carb for the step-up piston.

I bet you can make one faster than you can find and buy it. Regular gasket stock should be fine, use several layers to get the extra thickness of the original.

If your gasket is like the one on my '47 D25 with Stromberg carb, there are the four slots off the centre hole to accommodate the step-up piston port. Only one slot is required, of course, since the stock gasket is made to be fool proof (can be installed 4 different orientations). As long as you place the new gasket in the correct orientation on the manifold, only one slot is needed.

My D25 had been hard of starting when hot, a condition I understand can result at least partially from manifold heat percolating up through the gasket into the carb after the engine is shut off. I expect this is why the factory gasket is thicker with multiple layers.

Last summer I made a wooden insulator/spacer/gasket to go between the carb and manifold. In keeping with my passion for having all modifications and upgrades period correct — at least looking old, and, ideally, made from old materials — I made the spacer from a bit of door frame salvaged years ago from a 1929 Nash sedan. I sealed the inside bore with gasket goo and carved the one slot required for the piston port. So far, so good... and it seems to have helped the hot start problem.

The NAPA Carb re-build Kit only costs $19.95 and has all the Carb Gaskets The Pump Piston Springs etc., and I believe 2 of the ones you seek as well at the base of the Carb.

I forget the NAPA # and its pouring rain here and my Dat Timers in my truck so if someone doesn't give you the Carb Kit # I'll get back with it later.

Over the weekend I went to a swap meet and purchased two Mc Cord Gasket catalogs. The first one goes from 1909-1937 and the second one goes from 1937- 1960. I will be scanning these and making CD's if anyone is interested.

These two catalogs cover the entire gaskets that were used on our cars and trucks. So if you are restoring a car this would be very useful in knowing the correct gasket number when you go to a NAPA or other parts store.

Each cd seperately will be $12 but if you get both catalogs on one cd then I will cut the cost to $20. The price includes shipping

This is valuable information to have as an antique car owner. It covers our MoPar cars and trucks. and a whole lot of other cars and trucks. You will be amazed with the list of cars Sterns, Knight Continenatl and Lycoming engines it even covers headlight cork lens gaskets.
