hello, i'm new to the forum and have some questions about a Canadian

25" flat head.

i have a 48 dodge truck and i'm looking for a part number for an engine gasket set. having a hard time finding it. would a engine set for the shorter motor be the same, except for the head gasket?? i need a head gasket too but maybe i can get it seperate

engine ser# T143 6918c

it is an external bypass head (no hump) 25" can i use the gasket for an internal bypass??

does anyone have any ideas?? please help me.

Gasket set should be fairly easy to find. Our machine shop supplies them and I think someone posted a place called best gasket that had sets. Don't buy a set for the 23in motor lots of other stuff won't fit too.

I'll be in the same boat right away....I haven't gone looking for gaskets yet, but I think I might be able to order them from the farm equipment company that shared that same block for a lot of years...218 and 251 are apparently the same...but the ag stuff might be different on some fits...so will have to compare...where you from REDNIC?

yeah, i have gone to napa

the issue is they keep finding numbers for the 23" motor

i have a number off the forum for a 25" head gasket for an internal bypass

motor, will that work for an external bypass motor too?

Here are two #FS3029X or FS4922, both Victor from NAPA.I used the first # on a Canadian 228 1954 Plymouth engine and the second on a 1950 218 Canadian dodge engine that I put in my 1948 1/2 ton Fargo.Either gasket set will work.Dealing with NAPA can be a problem,as older people retire, younger people don"t know about older cars and in a lot of cases can"t be bothered. If you need any help just e-mail me at arblake@shaw.ca. I live in Courtenay B.C on Vancouver Island.

That's cool, glad to hear there's at least one other MB'er on here and one with some of the same isues! LOL

The shop I used to work at had an old 49-50 dodge car in last year...same issue, nobody had any listings for the gaskets and if you have the 23" block then your in for a search. You might be better to order it out of the U.S. from a resto place or search some sites for some part numbers.

Napa does have some pretty good listings for some old stuff, but try a few old machine shops...they might know where to go with that stuff, as most jobbers have moved well past that era of cars and the kids working there have no idea how to look the stuff up either.

Napa has right set listed for my 1950 plymouth 25" block if the last guys numbers are right!

FS4922 was somewhere around $125 for the set, I think! I am having same problems getting numbers for bearings(crank and rod) not sure if Canadian is the same as US!

hope this helps

Check prices before ordering. I just got a set of exactly what you need from my local NAPA, who usually treat me very well. I didn't ask about price, since everything else had been about the same as I could get on the web. Bernbaum has it for about $90 or so, it was $200 at NAPA, and they give me dealer cost!
