Anyone know where I can get some instrument panel labels for my drawer type knobs? The old ones wore off years ago. The attachments, pulled from the net, are samples of the font and gold colored lettering that I am looking for.

Labels include: CHOKE, PANEL LIGHT, HEADLIGHT, THROTTLE

Thanks

From the looks of them you could probably do a good job of replicating them with rub down lettering. Try an art supply store or graphic arts supply. You would probably have to cover them with varnish or spray lacquer to make them permanent. Do some experimenting first to make sure the varnish or lacquer doesn't dissolve the lettering, or finish on your knobs.

What did you figure out on your labels? I have the same problem with my dash on my 37 Plymouth (pic 1). I remembered this labeler I have at work (pic 2), so I brought it out and looked in the manual, and they listed a gold letter on a clear background. I jumped on their WEB site, and found that that label was discontinued.

I did a Google search, and found the labels on Amazon, so I ordered the tape. I printed one out, and with the smallest font, the letters are the same height. But the spacing is wider, and I can’t change that.

I got one NOS knob with the car (pic 3), so I printed out the same thing, trimmed it, and placed it on the lower portion to show the difference. It looks good enough for me, so I’m going to use them on my dash.

If you want a set, PM me with your address and I’ll mail them to you. Lee

Just a shot in the dark, what about a rubber stamp set up with a hobby type gold metallic paint then clear coat the piece. You may be able to find a set that has the individual letters in the size and font closer to original.

I think the dymo labeler (and perhaps others) have a transfer style tape. Where you peel off the backing tape, then by rubbing the surface of the upper tape, transfer the embosed letters to a surface without having the back ground behind the letters.

Yes, that is what I meant by "rub down" letters. I think that the proper name is "dry transfer lettering" Chartpak is one manufacturer. They are available by the sheet which contains several alphabets of letters. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and can be bought at art supply stores. They do need to be coated with something to make them permanent.

That is the way this works. The labeler puts the gold letters on the clear tape, you trim, peel and stick.

Thanks Lee

I've PM'd you about the labels. Here's what they look like now. I had to replace the throttle knob and need to replace the red high beam indicator on the headlight knob.
