41/53dodges Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 does anybody have any ideas for disguising alternators to look a little "nicer" merle saw how crappy all my little mods look, i myself HATE seeing anything out of place under the hood, especially the stupid plastic overflow tank, working on that, though. now, is there any cheap way to make the F!@#ING ALTERNATOR LOOK DECENT? lugnut123 Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Would there be any way you could run the alt off the drive line and put a reg generetor on the moter. just an idea Quote
Dan Babb Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Maybe paint it black to try to hide it a bit. Or open up your wallet and buy this http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/powergen.html Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 I've heard of places that will rebuild a geni into an alterntor Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Is it the alternator that looks really bad or is it some jury rigged bracketry that makes it look offensive? Alternators look like alternators unless built into a gen case. Some of the imports use a small diameter alt. Alt cases are available chromed if that would help. Painting it black, as previously mentioned, isn't a bad idea either. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 7, 2011 Author Report Posted February 7, 2011 its more the alternator than anything else, it used the original bracketry with some spacers added, works great, just uglier than a chimp's ***! Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 I find the older Chrysler one wires more attractive than the commonplace GM units so commonly used. All that open grid area looks better compared to the closed in boxy lump of the GM design. Black painted case with copper colored windings visible. Sounds attractive to me. That old black generator case really isn't that attractive either, just more correct. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Your only options to keep it looking more original would be to find a 12v generator and regulator or spend lots of money, which I know isn't possible for you right now. Here's another expensive option for you to dream about. http://www.gener-nator.com/ Merle Quote
