My son has his engine restored and wants to know with new piston fitted and every things else correct the pistons stop short of the edge of the block..posible one ring size gap..is this normal? Dave72dt Posted February 1, 2011 Report Share Posted February 1, 2011 I think you're talking about deck clearance. Not all pistons come all the way up to the surface the head bolts onto. Top ring on the /6 will probably only come between 1/2 and 3/8 inch from the top so if that's what you're talking about, yes, that's normal. Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2011 Report Share Posted February 2, 2011 lots of engines have their piston just shy of flush with the top of the block..so this is not a problem..it would be more of a problem should it be the other way around...you have up .090 that can be milled from the slant 6 head alone....this will up the compression 1.5CR on the 225 and 2.0 if on the 170 block...however should you go .080 head cut..do use hardened wzshers (P4120457) on the head bolts on reassembly..did not see any data on decking the block..the block can be bored .060 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
