Good Morning All,

I have a 1947 Plymouth with a 230 engine. The engine requires a cylinder head with the "hump" for what I am assuming is the internal bypass system. Someone installed a cylinder head without the hump using a head gasket that is to be used for a head with a "hump. I had the motor running and it ran fine. When I changed the water pump and cleaned front of the head area and water pump mounting area, I must of removed whatever was put to stop the leak at the bottom of the cylinder head. The thermostat housing that is installed is the one used for the external bypass system. My question is, can I apply silicone in that area to prevent leaking, or replace the head gasket that does not have the hump or do I need to get a cylinder head with the hump? Hope this make sense because I am getting a headache just typing this.

Engine number is:T310

Head Number is :1120803-6

Sure hope you can push me in the right direction.

Have a great weekend.

If that is the hole for the internal bypass showing in the block I would say you need to find a head with the "hump". If you sealed that hole there is no telling when the sealant will blow out, you can overheat and ruin your engine.
