Charlie Olson Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) Last night, at Barrett-Jackson, a Navy Ambulance was sold for $132K. That ambulance is claimed to be the same one that carried JFK's body, from the airfield in DC, after it arrived from Dallas. Now, there is a hearse, listed on ebay, that is claimed to be another JFK assassination related vehicle, which carried his body from the hospital to the airfield, in Dallas; asking price $1,500,000. http://tiny.cc/j8zf4 Edited January 23, 2011 by Charlie Olson Quote
oldodge41 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I watched that auction last night. I think all the disclaimers were a red flag to potential bidders. If you have to try that hard to cover your *** in case it is in fact a fake, well, it just may be. To me, I could care less who a car belonged to, unless it was family, or what it was used for previously.I have strong memories of those events and respect for the people involved. But to say that hearse is more valuable today because it once carried JFK just doesn't do anything for me. Real or not, I have no interest in a Pontiac hearse as a collector car. A Mopar hearse? Only if the car itself did something for me, not who it may or may not have transported. Not knocking anyone who is into that stuff, I am just a car guy and the car is the star to me, not the peripherals. Quote

I was a bit skeptic also when I was watching it, but I think its more about the history than the car if it was the one used. Quote
old stovebolt Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I could use it to haul my surfboards to the beach..... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 an old hearse would be great to have..was one I saw quite often..was never for sale then just disappeared..old Pakcard I think it was..possible mid 50's so if I can ever get this house up to speed I can get back on my 51 Plymouth Suburban, I do have the surf board standing by to place as a useable prop... It has been documented that the original hearse was crushed by the Kennedy Library back in the Eighties. Further proof that some people have more money than brains... Just my 2 cents... Roadkingcoupe Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I have no way of confirming this info..... A good friend of mine watched the auction and says that there were actually a number of decoys in addition to the actual ambulance/hearse. In his version, the vehicle that actually transported JFK was crushed and he believes that the vehicle up for auction was one three possible decoys. He goes on to explain that the Kennedy family was/is diligent in maintaining the memory and preventing the sale of "memorabilia". Once again I have no idea if he is correct but it sounds plausible. I agree with a previous post, if I do not like the actual vehicle it makes no difference who may have owned it, rode in it or washed it. Now a 1939 Plymouth ute or a 3 window Aussie Dodge coupe would definitely get my attention. Quote
1941Rick Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Yes Tammy, my apologies to all the Debbie's Quote
