Here is a picture...it has an older front grille etc....I guess I am in need of a parts truck..although I kinda like the older grille style. ;-)

Its been sitting in someone's yard for seven years and they purchased it from a kid who was at the time driving it to highschool. He lived very close to the school....I'm assuming he wasn't driving very fast!

Lots of work to be done.....

A newer style grille or an older style hood and you're all set. Your truck looks to be an excellant candidate for restoration. Other than the oxidized paint, it appears to be very solid. Doesn't even seem to have the front fender rivet rust problems that are almost mandatory repair sites.

Welcome to the forum. There's a lot of beginners here as well as old hands. No question is too simple or silly to ask if you don't know the answer. Someone here will usually know the answer. We're all here to enjoy and promote the Pilothouse experience.

Looks GREAT, are you sure that the paint is oxidized? It almost looks like primer with a darker color on it to find the high and low spots after you sand it? The body looks like it was freshly redone.

Good looking start! The front stainless pieces can be very expensive, but you got into the truck at a great price. This forum is great - nearly every question about your truck that you can think of has already been answered and posted here. Your mentioning the kid reminded me that I had a 1960 Ford truck in High School - vacuum wipers, unsynchronized granny gear, leaky drum brakes. I loved that old truck. At 16 I was double clutching three on the tree and driving up hills in rainstorms with no wipers. It was painted green so of course my girlfriend hated it. One day the brakes failed and I crashed through the garage door and nearly killed my Dad, but hey who lets their 16 year old drive around with no brakes? Good times then.

The finish is a faux finish I am assuming said teenager applied! ;-)

I have all the emblems, hood ornament, and top stainless bar....missing bottom bars. UGH! Of course all of those are actually for the older style so if I change to actual 52 grille then they are worthless to me.

Really there is very little rust on this truck which is great! Even the floor inside is spotless. Now mouse poop....that was a different story! LOL

Here is a pic of the dash and the dark blue color I was talking about....sorry for the confusion.

Your dash is the same color as mine. It looks darker in the cab, but is the same as my exterior.

Here is the before picture of my dash. It cleaned up good except for cubby door. With good gauges and cleaned up knobs it's going to be just fine. So yours has lots of promise. Take lots of pictures before you start. You'll appreciate them later when you make an album. I had forgotten how my dash looked, glad I took a picture.

Sooooo, did you buff the plate under the speaker grille and it came out that good???? Mine is not as bad as your original pic but I would like to get some of the rust spots off....how do I do that or did you find a better one???? Your after pic looks good I can't wait to go back out and work on mine...might just have to start a fire in the shop since its a complete blizzard outside! Getting excited about how great the interior might look!!

Sandra: I used a product called: Blue Magic, Metal Polish Cream. It is for chrome, aluminum, etc. It takes very little so buy the smallest jar available because it's a bit pricy. Used it on the hub caps also.

I used car wax and elbow grease. I wish I had a before and after picture of my dash. All I have is this one after my first cleaning. If you look near the screw heads on the instrument cases you can see the gunk I didn't take off. This was a first quick clean. I am surprised how nice the inside cleaned up.
