52b3b Joe Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Has anyone had problems with their front shackle mounts wearing out...the rear ones for the front springs. One of mine is egged out very bad. Does anyone make new ones...i know that the rear spring ones are available but are the fronts? Thanks. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 are you talking about the casting on the frame? I replaced mine. Search the threads in the "parts wanted" and the phone number was in there. I think Roberts has the shackle itself if that is what you are looking for. Quote
52b3b Joe Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 Yeah, the casting that goes on the frame is what im talking about. Thanks for the info. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 I just searched for ya as well, I couldn't find the place I got them from. I replaced both passenger and driver on mine. My driver side was shot, passenger side was ok, if you need the passenger side we can talk about how to get it to ya. Quote
HanksB3B Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 There's about 50 recent posts on this topic, including a video on YouTube staring our own Tim E. Just trying to be helpful, Hank Quote
52b3b Joe Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 Yeah, i already searched but didnt find anything for the part i need. I think I'm just going to have to fix mine by machining an insert, boring the piece larger and welding it in. The treads are very shallow though so a tool will have to be made to put in the lath and cut them. Quote
HanksB3B Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 There really shouldn't be anything so special about your shackles that they are not readily available. I think you need to dig deeper both on the forum and parts vendors. There's Roberts Motor Parts, Andy Bernbaum, I think others have found them through Napa and there is vintagepowerwagons.com also. Then, you could always get lucky on Ebay. Good Luck, Hank Quote
52b3b Joe Posted December 12, 2010 Author Report Posted December 12, 2010 sorry for the confusion, I already have new shackles, but the part on the frame that the shackle goes into is wore out. http://www.robertsmotorparts.com/catalog/images/T110.jpg The one for the front though...its different from the rear, its smaller and goes inside the frame. 48Dodger Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Ya...I've been working on a video about that mount. The rear/driver side/frame mount is a left hand thread and gets beat up a lot. You could replace the whole deal with the same shackle set-up as the passenger side. Helps save the LH/RH confusion. I have one if you like to get it from me. I'm "Tim E" btw...thanks Hank...lol 48D Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Has anyone had problems with their front shackle mounts wearing out...the rear ones for the front springs. One of mine is egged out very bad. Does anyone make new ones...i know that the rear spring ones are available but are the fronts? Thanks. Yes,we made new bushings, these days ago,for the rear ones of the front springs and I have many pics showing to you how to make.Mines were egged too.You have in this pics the supports of the frame that are fixed by 4 bolts(rear of the front springs-U shakles). We put new bushings inside then(they were egged),now you have to put the new U shackles.Remember,in the frame always goes the RHT.The LHT only goes in the spring eyes and only goes in the drivers left side and passenger right rear side. fargorat Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 I dont believe they are made. Have contacted parts suppliers that sell dodge parts for these trucks and nobody has them.[ROBERTS,ANDY,RAREPARTS,ETC.]. I even bought a parts truck hoping they were good but no such luck.If they ever come up on EBAY scoop them up because they are impossible to find. I dropped mine off to a local machine shop and they are fabricating new ones for me.Good luck. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Yes fargorat,we have many good craftsman here.I believe in improvements.Mine B3-B since three years ago we have worked very well on it,not waiting for original parts. Many things we did by improve.Did you understand about LHT & RHT "U" shackles, where we should locate them? Quote
52b3b Joe Posted December 20, 2010 Author Report Posted December 20, 2010 yeah, i understand some are left hand threads...i already did the rear shackels so im doing the fronts now. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 LHT only in the eyes and only in driver front left and passenger rear right. Quote
fargorat Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 yeah I understand the LHT thread and RHT thread.I believe when fabricating new mounts the thread is the same way or the originals would have had different part #.I bought my U shackles at Rareparts and when I received them they come with a part # on each package and dont say exactly to which location of spring they are.I just wrote on the package to where they go to make it easier when assembling[who knows when that will be done] Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 "".....the thread is the same way or the originals would have had different part #""(fargorat). I know the threads in side rail mountings are the same(right hand). In relation to the part numbers I don't know. Quote
52b3b Joe Posted February 14, 2011 Author Report Posted February 14, 2011 I thought I'd close up this tread I started...heres what I ended up doing. I bored out the area with the treads and fitted an isert I machined. Weld them together and cut the new treads and now I'm good to go. It took about 9 hrs to do but its as good as new! Here are some pictures.... 1 Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 CONGRATULLATIONS,nice job! Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 does that part look familiar to me at all? Quote
sniggle_t Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 So now that you have the process down, when are you going to start your new repair business? I have a pair that need this done. Quote
Desotodav Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I had the same suspension problem with one of my trucks in Oz. I found a fellow that had a few of these suspension blocks NOS. I paid around $50 each a few years back for mine. I can check with him to see if he has any more of them if any of you are interested. I have a few used ones in my parts stash now also. I would imagine that the freight cost to USA would be pricey as they weigh 500 grams each. The attached photo is of a couple of my spare ones. Let me know if any of you want me to chase some down for you. I can check up on freight costs if you tell me where you are. Quote
