I will be installing my headliner tomorrow. Today I am cleaning and painting the bows and edge trim metal parts. My question is:

Do the metal trim pieces go on the car before the headliner material? My assumption is yes and that the headliner and the door trim get pushed under the metal to secure them in place. Please verify that my thinking on this is correct !!!

Also I have four rubber strip pieces and I don’t remember where these go. Are these used on the doors panels or do they install with the door trim molding?

Thanks in advance, Chet…

Chet,

In my '40 coupe, the metal trim piece with the serrated teeth goes on first, then the headliner is gently tucked in behind the peice so that the teeth grap and hold the material

Hope this helps,

bob

Chet on my coupe there is a rubber piece about an inch tall that goes on the bottom of each door under the door panel. The clips along the bottom edge of the door panel are longer to reach the door through this rubber strip.

I don't know if there are any good answers in these threads that came

up by doing a forum search................ thread address deleted as it stopped

working. See a couple posts on down.

Hmmm.....I see that.

Well then, just use the search function at top right of the main screen

and put in "headliner installation then hit go.

Yep chet those go on your door bottoms. Go look at your doors where the door panels attach and you should see a little taper at the bottom. These fill that in.

Thanks guys for the quick responce...

I couldn't help myself so... I took the old girl out for a ride tonight. All lights working and the only exception is no interior, just me and the steel milk crate. She ran great and on the main road I had her up to 65 mph with no problems. Burned off the rust on the brake drums. The brake job was done 4 years ago. Now she stops straight and can’t wait to be on the road legally.

Thank god for rural America. I drove 10 miles round trip.

Holy cow 65mph on a crate. Chet you got these?

Life is short.., So why not take it to the limit, Maybe I should have put a 383 in her and taped her out at about 120 mph. Well maybe not without a suspension retrofit.

Cheers Chet, Feeling good and still crazy after all these years …

Chet,

It is running great. Your tip on starting procedure has proven to be invaluable. Thank you very much.

Drove it to the office this morning. Saturday I will drive it in the local Christmas parade and then will drop the transmission to fix the O/D. Will you be keeping the P15 in Delaware or will you bring it to Virginia? Looking forward to seeing it.

Don, you know Tennesee would be within my range at just over 800 miles, however it seems that other are loathe to travel that distance. I was thinking that if we drew a 200 mile circle around say Reading Pa, we might roust some interest for quite a few folks, as that circle would include several NE state as well as Vir, W, Va, and a few adventurous others.

I am thinking about the event that Ed's folks are having, but at over 1200 miles it is out of daytrip reange and would require an over night there and back as well as lodging during the event.

The 200 mile range makes it more doable for those who don't quite have the faith in their vehicles as some of us.

And as you noticed there has been no comments about the prospect of the event but yours and Jim's.
