A friend gave me a 427 top oiler a few months back and had been trying to think what to do with it, well i was talking to my kid and his friend when they mentioned one of their buddies had a 63 Galaxie cheap, so i went to the dark side last week and picked up a 63 Galaxie to build a clone. now i have to learn more than i ever wanted to know about Fords to put this thing together. man i knew i should have went to the docs after i bumped my head last week!!

That motor is more famous then the company that built it. My faather loved those motors(Ford man) they saved face when the 292, 312 motors were putting the oval boys down. He used them when ever he had a chance.

I have been critized by my friends for finding the motor first then locating the car in which it goes in. A 427 is a beautiful thing. In a Galaxie it's the right thing to do. Nothing wrong with Ford as long as the power plant can live up to the hype. I have a Thunderbird with a 352(smooth) That's a wonderful road car. let's see a pic of the Galaxie.

Mike (dezeldoc), I love my old Mopars and flatties but I have always kinda liked the Fords from the early 60's. I have a '63 Ford Fairlane 500 with an original 260 V8 in it. I bought it in 1979 and drove it for years as an everyday car and it just kinda became a keeper. I am taking it to a Santa Claus Parade tomorrow and it will be driven on some ugly roads with slush, ice, dirt, etc. I would take the old girl anywhere, anytime. I will ride it hard and put it away wet!:P

The '63 Galaxie was a great looking car and you will like it. My smaller Fairlane drives very smoothly and cruises at 70+MPH all day long. The Galaxie should be even better, especially with the 427. Good luck with the project.

If you start a build thread anywhere let us know so I can follow the build. Old cars are cool no matter who built them the first time. That is a great looking Fairlane too.

Don't feel bad. I have a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 model 64b club sedan with a 292 Y block and a 2 speed Ford-o-matic transmission. It's no show car but it's in a garage. I've managed to hang onto it since 1976 when I picked it up for a song.

..If I had a '57 Ford I'd be reluctant to part with it as well.It has always been my personal choice,(of the big three) for body style for that year - not too shabby on performance either :)

I always thought the 56 ford, although nice looking, was a little stubby and the 58 grille was trying too hard with the extra set of headlights and the chrome. The 57 had pretty clean lines and looked like it was moving even when it was standing still. I'll eventually get back to work on mine once I get the 47 Chrysler a little further along.

Yes, I'll agree with you there on styling.I prefer the '57.I saw the movie "Thunder Road" (B&W in a theatre) back in the day ;)The car that Robert Mitchum drove at the end of the movie was a '57 Ford.Neither the character he portrayed nor the car survived a spectacular crash at the end of the movie.Hope I haven't spoiled the movie for those who may have yet to see it (if even interested) ;)..The car performed well on the stock car circuit as well.

I need buddies that will "give" me 427 FE motors!

Ditch the Galaxie and get a 64 Fairlane sedan.

You're not crazy building a car around a motor. I'm sure there are a few guys here with hemi valve covers hanging off the walls in garages they want to build cars around.

That galaxie is nice, it was made for a 427. RobertK I am very surprized at you:) That little Fairlane is great. I knew you where holding back:rolleyes: There is nothing wrong with liking other makes as long as they are interesting. I like Fords as well, ok maybe just some. My father had a 1957 ford fairlane convetible, two infact. He liked his thunderbirds as well.

Thanks guys! yeh i have a 354 laying in the back yard on a pallet, again don't know what to do with it! The Galaxie stays, i did the Fairlane thing about 15 years ago for a customer, Thunderbolt clone. poor car got burnt down to the ground in the crestline fire a few years back.

I had a 64 Mercury Marauder 2 door, buckets, console 390 auto back in the 70's. Same body as your Galaxie except the roofline was different.

That car was the best highway car I've ever driven. It seemed to hunker down and get closer to the road the faster I went...and I went fast. Handled perfectly.

Your gonna love driving that Galaxie

This is a web find, but mine was identical...except the wheels. I had a set of ET's

Well i scored some needed parts today by accident. My kid and i were going to pick your part for some parts for his car and as we were searching for some mustangs to rob a few parts off we stumble on a 65 galaxie, pop the hood and there sits a mostly complete 390, so we proceed to get all the alt,p/s,fan and pulleys and brackets. hopefully by the time i get the paint on the 50 P-19 i will have all the parts for the 63!
