Steeplechase races are popular in this part of Virginia. Every year on the first Saturday in November, there is a big race at Montpelier, Virginia, James Madison's estate. Tailgating is a big part of the day so what better car to take than my 1941 Plymouth wagon. Montpelier is about 50 miles from my home and the car ran great without any problems. It was a beautiful day. We had a great time and I received many compliments on the car.

Should I keep my eyes open for a Yegin sighting here in Tennessee anytime soon? Glad your gaining confidence and your car is running well!

Jim,

If it is as nice a day in Virginia as it is suppose to be up here in the Catskills, sure would be nice to see some photos of the Wagon out and about with surrounding scenery of the Virginia countryside later today. Hint, Hint:):)

Hope you and yours have a great day,

Bob

Hey, Jim, I'm glad to hear it. You've worked hard to get that thing going so you deserve to enjoy it. Maybe you can take it on a run to Alexandria some time. Is your OD working?

Hay Jim,

If you feel like taking a ride to Joe's house maybe you might want to stop by and pick me up. I am kind-a on the way.

Chet...

PS… Maybe I can have my 48 rolling this summer and we could caravan down to Don’s house. You should have enough of room in the back of the suburban for enough tools and parts for both cars.

Drove the car into town yesterday evening to pickup some things at my office. Came out and it would not start. Had spark but even with starter fluid would not start. Ended up towing it home (tow bar was good investment). Got it into the garage and will investigate the problem. So much for the confidence level. Looks like a trip to Tennessee is not in the near future. Hopefully one to Alexandria is more likely. The O/D is this winter's project. Would have been nice to have had a working O/D on Saturday for the 100 mile round trip. Carls49, I went right by Brandy Station on Route 15. We'll have to catch up one of these days.

Hi JIm, Does the spark accur at the contact points or the base of the dist. Tray. My car did the same thing would start and run one day and the next would not. I had the dist. rebuilt and I have not had a problem since.

Jim I will be going to The Roaring Twenties tomorrow. This is down the road from you in Madison county in a town called Hood. Ms. Martha is having us down to tour her museum. If you are free come on down.:) She has so much stuff.

I will be in the Plymouth at the end of the week, I will have some great pic's for you then:D

I have not spent any quality time with these guy's over the summer so I am trying to make it up to them. They have been very good to me, helping me with these time consuming projects. Sometimes you have to recepricate RIGHT:rolleyes: This should be loads of fun:D Bob, I will take pic's in the museum.

Jim,

Sorry to hear about your starting problems. I also always have a hard time starting my car. When the painter had it he reported to me that it always started right up never a problem ??? Very confusing, until I read the Plymouth Owners manual for the Car which states. Do Not pump the gas peddle prior to starting. This is something I just naturally do. Since I stopped doing this the car starts right up. Basically the book states to put the accelerator at half peddle, set the choke, and hit the starter. This actually works. What I was doing was flooding the car every time I went to start it. Knowing you, this probably isn't your issue but I thought I would mention it anyway.

Good Luck, Chet...

Chet,

Actually, I think flooding may have been my problem. Once I got it home it started right up and has done so every time since then. Thanks for the tip about the correct starting procedure. I too was always pumping it several times before starting. The problem with holding the pedal half-way down is that my car has a foot starter. It can get a little awkward with the left foot on the gas pedal. Maybe I can just use the hand throttle for the same result.

The hand throttle should work fine to advance the throttle setting. Also the maual calls for opening the trottle without pumping for hot starts also.

Jim, what spark plugs are you running. Quite a few folks have stated that AC 45's, 46's and 47's seem to fire more readily than Champions or other brands. I have always been a Chapion kind of guy, but switched to the AS with what seems to be favorable results.

The only time I find I need to pump my pedal is after the car has sat for more that 2weeks. other wise its open the throttle set the choke and crank.

One nice thing about running unleaded gas is spark plug life. I am running AC Delco R-45 plugs in my engine. I have not replaced the plugs in my engine in over 40,000 miles. I have a plug sand blaster (less than twenty bucks from JC Whitney) and clean them every so often.
