Normspeed Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 On the HAMB there's a discussion going on about this. A few folks recommend something I've never heard of: Run 2 pipes, no crossover, one just a small (1 1/2") diameter straight pipe, the other with a glasspack. Supposed to give a really unusual tone. This is for folks that want to make lotsa noise and lotsa rap when backing down. Another variation is to run 2 cherry bombs, one long and one short. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 One guy even said he uses NO mufflers. Reckon you can take your choice. Quote

Justin Slingsby Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I run two no cross over straights. I love the sound. It has such a bark at the top of each gear it is beautiful.. They sound great cracking them off in the Lowry tunnel in Minneapolis. I have heard of people running them as a 4/2 split and I guess that is a unique sound as well. This is more common on Chevy sixes. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Hey next time you are coming through mpls give me a ring! Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Yeah will do I will be in Minneapolis at the end of the month for a car club meeting. I will give ya a heads up! Quote
bob westphal Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I used a couple resonators off my buddy's new '59 Impala as mufflers on my '48 P15 4dr way back when. It took 2 months to scrape up the money to pay the fine for extra loud exhaust. Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I am a proud member of The Lucky Bastards http://www.luckybastardscarclub.com/ We have our 2nd annual car show coming up in Sept so we are busy planning for the show. However I think I will be at Donnie Smith all weekend long. I will be with the Twin City Custom Cycles booth. March 23-24 weekend. Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 I've got the best of both worlds. Muffed and loud!! BloodyKnuckles Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 thats a lot of plumbing...Rotor Rooter special..do you have lever control coutout valves installed? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Reminds me of some plumbing under my house. Probably sounds good, though. For now I'm using a single resonator muffler.....is louder but the tone is not all so great. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 The top plumbing is unique too. I believe this car belongs to Ron and he drove it from the east coast to VIVA in Vegas last year. Check his profile for an engine picture. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/image.php?u=257&dateline=1172808284&type=profile Quote
Normspeed Posted March 17, 2007 Author Report Posted March 17, 2007 that is one great intake setup! Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Thanks for the compliments fellas! I believe we went through 60 feet of tubing. Sounds great through the Smithy's but I also enjoy the sound through the open lakes. I have 2 levers right under the seat for easy open and close. We did my wifes '54 DeSoto that came from the exhaust manifold single then did long angle cuts on 2 pieces of tubing. We then welded them together to make duals. Ran through 2 turbo style mufflers and exited at the points of the rear bumper. The six sounds real healthy and has a pleasant sound inside the car, not obnoxious. I'll try to get a pic or two of hers. BloodyKnuckles Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Could not tell from the pictures but was hoping you had control...bet you can reallly blend the tone for whatever area you in...don't be surprised when another set appears on this page hooked up...does the extra long tubes mellow the tone or add a sharp crisp brap... randroid Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Gents, Bose speakers run on the idea that the longer the run, the better the resonation, ergo the better the sound. (That's the short version.) I bet we could get "Myth Busters" to check it out for us, especially if we pointed out that through our forums we have access to other forums and if we knew when such a show might be aired we could spread the word and boost their ratings for that night by several thousand. If I get a response from them, are any of you with multiple exhausts willing to supply photos, etc.? -Randy Quote

Actually, it has a loud brap and crackle to it. The pipes going to the lakes are 1 7/8". The cut-outs I used were NOS from the late fifties called "Hurricanes". The only complaint I have is that they leak. I may pull them back apart and add material to the flap so that it seals better. BloodyKnuckles Quote
