Effective July 16, 2010, Earl Scheib, Inc. has ceased operations nationwide. Each store is now independently owned and operated by a person unaffiliated with Earl Scheib, Inc. Based on this change, customer warranties of Earl Scheib, Inc. will no longer be able to be honored at these stores or by Earl Scheib, Inc. We truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, however we believe the independent owners and operators will continue to provide the same great service that Earl Scheib, Inc. offered for almost 80 years.

I had a friend in high school that had his 1950 Plymouth painted a god awful green at Earl Shiebs for 19.95 cents. That paint job lasted about two months as the paint started to just tear oft in sections. They didn't even take oft the old wax and just painted it. 19.95 and we will paint anything!!!!!

I remember in the late 70's that J.C. Whitney was associated with Warshausky (spelling not right) and company. They went through bankruptcy at that time. One bought the other on paper. I had sent them a check for some stuff. They promptly cashed the check, sent me one small item from the order, and told me to go whistle in the wind.

Lived in Chicago all my life. Use to go to Warshawsky in the 70's. Corner of Archer and State, 1 block south was Blue Star Auto Parts. Bought my first set of tools from them, 29 pieces for 9.99. It had a ratchet that was 3/8 drive on one side and 1/2 on the other. I think everything lasted about a month then went into the trash. J. C. Whitney was mail order only and had the same catalog but with lower prices. They also had a warehouse on about 18th and Racine before moving to Lasalle, Il.

My memories from the 60's were all the "gimmicks" to increase gas mileage and performance that Whitney sold. One that stands out were the fire injectors which were to replace your standard spark plugs and increase both gas mileage and performance. Over the years apparently many people were suckered in by those false claims and made Whitney some money.

my dad had a 1970 VW bug that he sorta fixed up to look like it was in the 50s,,, every thing came from whitney,,,fender skirts,,ETC,, he tried those fire injector spark plugs they ran hot and warped the heads on the VW,,,
