ron schmitt Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I put 2 pictures of my 2700 mile vacation in the Members Gallery. One picture is of the truck on the suspension bridge at Royal Gorge, colorado. It's 1300 ft to the bottom of the gorge !!! The other picture is the suspension bridge itself. Later, Ron Schmitt Quote
austinsailor Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Pretty cool! Somewhere I have a picture of my 1965 Plymouth Barracuda in the middle of that bridge, taken in 1965. Your truck looks as new as my Plymouth did back then. You're right, It's a long way down! Quote
Dave72dt Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 We were in the general area about 20 years ago and crossed one about 700 ft to bottom. I"m guessing slow traffic on bridge and a lot of picture taking. Amazed it's still a wood deck. What are the specs on the rear wheels on your truck? Look like Cragar SS. Backspace? Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 In 1976 I rode a bicycle across the US from Williamburg Virginia to San Francisco. On one of our days we rode from Provo Ut up oan over Monarch PAss which had a 13000 foot top. On that day we rode up along the river and then past the entracne to the Bidge. We rode a total of 50 miles with 30 lbs of gear on the bike and over a total vertical distnace of 1 mile vertically. It was real fun coming down the other side of the mounatin into Gunnison we hit over 40 mph on the downside run. It took us 60 days to cross the entire US and then we also cross the Great Salt Flats adn then went into Carson City, Lake tahoe, Sacramento and then Into Oakland and the the Alamedna NAval Station where is was visiting a friend. Great memories still last of this trip. Rich Hartung desoto19392aol.com Quote

S.F. to Boston, I was 21 and gone 4 months. The funny thing is I went down the East Coast to Virginia and stayed with a buddy near Camp Pendleton. He was a Navy Seal. Thanks for this thread Ron, otherwise I may not have learned this about Rich. 48D Quote
