Well, I've saved my money and am ready for new tires. I want wide white wall radial tires that retain as much of the original look as possible. I have a stock suspension 1948 with 15" rims.

Any advice on brands, size, source and price is appreciated.

I've got 195/75x15 and 235/75x15 Coker Classic Radials on my 41 Plymouth coupe, rims are 15x6 & 15x7 Wheel Vintique Chrome Smoothies with the standard offset they come with bolted onto the stock 41 Plymouth brake drums.

I looked into getting Diamondback tyres also but decided on the Cokers purely because the Diamond back dealer for Australia didn't have any 235's in stock and my money was burning a hole in my pocket.

As far as handling etc the Cokers are a 1000% improvement over the 6.00x 16 Republic brand crossplies I had on the car when purchased, it now steers, drives almost like a normal car........and it looks good......Andy Douglas

one comapny that deals in late model brand name tires that are first line quality radial or bias if you like..is White Wall Candy Store..bit high but call and talk to them, let them explain thier process and such..some tires popular to the old car scene are mainly show and parade tires..be careful what you buy as it can be a costly mistake getting the wrong one from the get go..tires aren't worth much if they bounce you over the road and wear incorrectly (flat spots) due to inabillity to properly balance..

i just lost my reply..

but Coker makes 2 lines of WWW. by Denman, made in mexico .....and by Specialty tire , made in pennsylvania.

whoever makes 'em....you either make a new WWW tire from scratch or you take someone else's tire and bond a white section to it......you decide.

I bought the diamondback radial 700R15 square bias ply shoulder design tires with standard 3" white walls (3-1/2 & 3-3/4 available) now made with yokohama brand tires. Sure hurt the pocket book but I am very glad I saved my pennies for so long. They really have the look of an old style tire and the white walls are really smooth and bright white.

Visited the White Wall Candy Store today and was impressed. I am looking at 215/75/15's -- about $238 OTD. Does anyone know the stock width of the white wall for a '48 Plymouth?

Bought mine from Coker 16" x 6" also bought inner tubes. Was told my original wheels would not hold air with tubeless. I think they were $195 each including shipping.

whitewall size...you dont really have your pick on the newstyles....radials are usually 2-3/4

bias are 3in..bigger tires are 3-1/2in.

i think original WWW was 3in. on 650x15's and 3+in on the 710x15's

you are right...WWW were a dealer option. so were spotlights., etc

my dad was a car salesman in the 50's and dealers clinched 'deals' with extras like WWW, spotlights, outside mirrors, seatcovers ,which were popular then.

I think my DBs were about $219 ea. With shipping to NY plus competent installation its about a $1000.00 bill for four. Another reason I like them is that the outside diameter is 29" +, about two inches more than the other set I had. I believe my engine is running a few less RPMs at 50/55.
