I'm working on my '41 to get it roadworthy. I've removed the front suspension and will be rebuilding it this weekend. In removing the front springs, I noticed that one side had the flat face of the spring installed at the bottom and the other side had it installed at the top. Does it matter? Which way is correct?

In reading other posts, I see that most people say that cutting one coil will drop the front 3". I'm assuming you cut from the end that is not machined flat. It sure doesn't look like that would drop it 3", as the coils are close together on that end. I'll give it a whirl and try it, however. Advice?

Lastly, does anyone have a template or design for the piece of steel used to move the upper shock mount? I'm going to do that mod while I'm at it.

Thanks

The easiest thing to do is grab a pair of F1 early F100 Furd truck mounts and bolt them to the frame. Check Member Jim Yergins posts for his swap. He used some from a Dodge truck but they are basically the same and the Furds are cheaper.

Rock, from experience the problem with cutting a coil is that generally the old original coils that are the subject of this modification have usually saged a bit so that you can't be certain how much a specific cut will drop the front end..........lol............that being said, cut 2/3rds out of the 41 plymouth front coils and it dropped 2-3"..........mor than enough for me............andyd

Actually I used a set from a 1937 Plymouth car I found on eBay. Here is the thread Greg mentioned:
