michael.warshaw Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 anyone ever go? is it worth going? Quote
chopt50wgn Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 been there for the past 3 yrs. it's a good day to get some exercise and walk around looking at lots of car stuff, but the only thing I came home with is wheel cleaner and small stuff. not going this year Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 I will admit when I called about this event years ago the lady on the phone did tell me it was predominately muscle cars...I would venture forward look would be about the oldest model in abundance.. Quote
Oldguy48 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Been there a few times. Never saw much for the old Mopars, but you never know. I still had an enjoyable day each time I went. If you do go, expect to do a LOT of walking. There's a lot to see. And lots of cars to admire:D Quote
michael.warshaw Posted April 20, 2010 Author Report Posted April 20, 2010 is carlisle similar to hirshey, where people bring there old car part and try to sell them like a flea market? Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 For the guy's that think Carlise is for musle cars you are very mistaken. I have found many many old car parts there. The thing is you can't go down the traditional vendor isles. When you get to the fairgrounds look at your booklet. There is a map in there. The place is set up like a maze. You have to look at it like you would an old junk yard. Check this out! In the front of the fairgrounds you will see the banners for all the vendors you know about. The tire guy's the chevy and ford vendors in your magazines. You are going to see almost all the vendors from the repoduction companies. As you go into the older section of the fairgrounds, that is down the hill on the other side near the highway. This is where the old parts are, it took me a couple of visits to find this area. I was there with the old guy in my club. It was like finding Atlantis;) This is where the parts on the table are 2.00 if you know what it is. I was very lucky to have known what I was looking for, this time I am looking for the same things. I need outside door handles for the chevy. I need some small Studebaker stuff as well. I have a bad hip so I go exactly where these parts are I am not interested in seeing everything at the fairground:eek: When it comes to our Plymouths there is a couple of vendors that cater to our cars. Find thier numbers and call them now as they can tell you where the booths are or you can look in the leagend of the carlise booklet. Quote
greg g Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 (edited) Rodney, going to the Studebaker swap at South Bend in a couple weeks. Any thing I can look up for you???? Edited April 20, 2010 by greg g Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Greg..if you should happen upon a 1950 Commander headlight pull I am interested..Ihave had several say they have them at home and never answer their e-mail after the swap meet... fits only the 50 Commander..not like the Champion..they everywhere... Rodney Bullock Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Tim, I am sorry you could not get in touch with the guy I talked to at the york swap meet. Did you ever call Mr. Myer's? He is in the Turning Wheels mag. The guy I talked to you about was very very old as most of these folks are and I know he just plain forgot. I missed the knob by 15 min. Greg, if you can find this knob I would be very happy. I promised Tim I would get him one. I got a knob for him howeve it was not the "light" knob. As he said it is only 50 Comanders that have it. It is just the knob, it has a "stem" with the word light on it. When I go to Carlise I will be on the look out for it as well. As far as myself, I am looking for some good pot metal for a hawk. The spear on the rear tail lights with no pitting. It's no big thing since I have a pair in the chrome shop trouble is it's been 2 years since I have heard from the shop. My stuff might be lost:mad: What can you do. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 (edited) Rodney, you still working with the plating shop in Richmond? 2 years is a long time...I sent a huge box of stuff there long long ago...quick turn around as was all the Sunbeam Tiger parts later...but then the ole man was in charge...I was wondering about the business since I heard it has been handed down to the next lower generation...I always hate it when I hear lower generation, usually it refers to the lower quality of service.. Greg, the knob in question is a rectangular chomed face pull..it is designed to fit in with the lower dash trim panel and the swith is about 1 1/8 high and approx 1 1/2 wide, engraved with LIGHTS...on the Stude of this era the knob and stem are one piece and the removal of the stem requires a small object, like a scribe, to be inserted in a hole just back of the headlight mount plate and release the lock...this one got broken as a result of someone not know how to extract the knob as I read the crime scene.. I may be able to snag a picture of it tonight and e-mail it to you...any help in this quest is greatly appreciated... Edited April 20, 2010 by Tim Adams Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Tim, the chrome shop I am talking about is not the one in Richmond. Jeff and I have a great relationship. I just had my studebaker oil filter/oil filler chromed by Jeff and it looks great. The chrome shop I am talking about is in Baltimore. Quote

michael.warshaw Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 So did anyone go to spring carlisle? Was it worth the trip? Quote
bearheart Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Was at the show on Friday (first time). It is huge. I was only there about 6 or 7 hours, got to see maybe 1/3 of the vendor area. Lots of cars on the hill but I wanted to cruise for goodies. I did see some good deals on cars for sale near the back (#7?) gate. The show does seem to have lots of performance and specialty vendors and I saw lots of fenders and hoods being carried out. I did get to meet Gearge: seems a very likeable guy. I'm going back in July for the All-Mopar show. Hoping to maybe see a few vehicles similar to my '49 Coronet. Quote
