Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Anyone have one of these? Its a model WW. I got a rebuild kit for it and when looking it over to see if its correct I noticed what looks like a missing piece on the bottom. What am I missing? Look right between the 2 barrels Quote
Olddaddy Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 I just picked one up yesterday. It's a WW, but it must have been on a V8 as the choke assembly will interfere with the head on my flathead six. Do you have any better pictures of yours? I might consider selling mine as I am thinking of using a later model Carter or even a Holley-Weber 2bbl. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Ed, Here's one I have marked Stromberg 56 Dodge 6 cyl. The number is a little different than yours. It's 3-124......maybe the difference between Dodge and Plymouth. Looks like maybe all yours is missing is a screw. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Reg would you mind removing that screw and snapping a pic of what it looks like? The threads are kinda deep and I suspect it may contain 1 of the 2 BBs that go in the carb. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Here it is. No ball came out. Not very long either. ~ 7/8" Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Thanks Reg thats a relief. Looks like just a plain screw. Whew! Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Thanks Reg thats a relief. Looks like just a plain screw. Whew! You're welcome. Did you ever find some stock or other linkage to make it work on your car ? I haven't yet. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Nope haven't gotten that far. Truck linkage pushed from the manifold so I'm thinking maybe I can mount the carb backwards. I was also thinking of trying to convert to a cable like Pete did for his 50 but the carb seems to be a push instead of a pull for that type. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Oh Reg one more question. Does that screw appear to be the same as the ones that hold the top together? If so I can use one of those as a sample to try and match up one more at the store. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Ed, It's bigger and longer than all the other screws except the other screw that is inset on the bottom. They are identical. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 That will still help me though I'll match one up to that other one on the bottom. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Yup, I thought you might like that info. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 I was going to stop at the hardware store after work but I think I'll delay my trip one day and get a sample of that screw. FYI I found a carb kit for these at napa and its quite cheap. I think I paid $15. Quote
woodie49 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 My packard 120 runs a Stromberg 2BBL WW. It is a bit different than yours. One thing though, it sits on a peice of material that is the same shape as the carb base. It is for heat absorbsion, maybe made out of asbestos or something? The peice is probably over 1/2 inch thick. You might need something to protect the carb from the manifold heat. In a Packard, that area get quite hot. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 The carb kit comes with quite a thick gasket for under the carb. Its probably 3/8s thick. Quote
Frank Elder Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 The carb kit comes with quite a thick gasket for under the carb. Its probably 3/8s thick.Ed are you sure that is not a phenolic type spacer to isolate the carb from the hot intake, thus keeping the fuel cooler and denser? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 8, 2010 Author Report Posted April 8, 2010 Its the only gasket in the kit but it could be thicker to serve that purpose also Quote
YukonJack Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 I want one! Someone got a 2bbl carb and intake they want to sell? PM me. Quote
Greg F Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 When I got my 230 I also bought a Stromberg WW two barrel carb. If I am reading this right, it will not work on my 1947 P-15? Anyone have one on their 15? IF so is there anything special I need to do to make it work when I put my motor back together? Thanks Greg Quote
Young Ed Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Did you buy a matching intake? If not your car is only setup for a 1bbl. You can however buy an adaptor Quote
Greg F Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Yes, Ed I did but the matching intake that is why I am hoping it'll work. My old intake cracked when I took it off, so I bought this one at the same time I bought the engine. What worries me is that some of the gentlemen on this forum mentioned that the stock linkage did not work for this setup. Thanks GREG Quote
Young Ed Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 The intake will bolt to your flathead but I doubt the linkage will work. Will either need to be modified or changed entirely. I have one of these intakes too but I also haven't gotten it installed so I can't say forsure. Quote
Greg F Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Oh great! If you haven't figured it out, then I have absolutely no chance! Might need to look for plan "C". Thanks for the heads up.....Greg Quote
Young Ed Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Greg I haven't even gotten to the point of trying to figure it out. So don't give up yet! Quote
