hello everyone my name is chuck and im new to the forum.

here is the problem im having with my dodge i picked it up this past summer after looking for a fuel tank i got it running in september even replaced the fuel pump over the winter i would start it every so offten a week ago it was running and it died out now it wont start back up i noticed the circuit breaker in the resistor for the trans controls was clicking and the amp meter would drop to 40 discharge i traced the wires down to the trans and found frayed wires so i rewired them they are the governor the solenoid and the inturrupter switch the trans is the gyromatic three speed i found a wiring diagram and noticed there were wires going to the carb for a kick down switch and a antistall switch which my dodge does not have the wires went directly to the trans i disconnected two wires one from the coil to the resistor and one from breaker to the solenoid and it still would not start and the breaker still snaps than i took the wire from the governor and placed on the coil side of the breaker it didnt snap but the amp meter was all the way down and the wire gets hot but still wont start when i take the wire from the governor off the breaker stops snapping the same with the coil wire that goes to the breaker i checked for spark it seemed weak but not sure if the coil shorted out or the governor went bad or somthing else happend

any help on this would be great

thanks

Welcome aboard Chuck.

I can't help you with your electrical problem since I know very little about the electrics on the Gyro-matics. But I'm sure there's someone here that can assist you on this.

What part of this Badger State do you reside in? I'm in the Milwaukee Metro area.

Also, I don't want to be too critical, since this is a car and truck forum not a grammer forum, but the use of punctuation would be helpful when trying to read your posts.

If you are geting some spark, then you are half way their.

1. Make sure you are getting fuel to the carb

2. Check the cap, points and coil wire. amke sure everything is clean and tight

3. I would hook a 12 volt battery to the six and give it a couple of spins to see if it will start. If it doesnt then I would replace the coil.

I have had the same sympton, it was the coil wire between the cap and coil, I have also had coils go bad. Your close

I've done it and seen it done many times and never had an issue. I suppose since its pretty easy to jump right to the starter that its a good idea just in case.

Ok i replaced the coil and the circuit breaker still snaps. the circuit breaker goes to the governor on the trans again there are no switches on the carb.and no wires going to the carb could the governor be bad. The engine did start and i was able to move the car back and forth.
