CAL8P569 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Hello I've never done this before and have never used a forum of any kind, so any advice or constructive criticism is welcome! Greg G told me about it at our first show in Maryland. We have a 1946 P-15. I'd like to know if anyone knows the cause of water leaking from the tail pipe, shortly after startup, if the car sits for a week or so. About 3 cups of water leaks out. If this question posts ok, I have another about cleaning rust from the engine block! Harold Quote
aero3113 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 My 50 Plymouth P-20 does the same. After the car is warmed up the moisture is burned off. I think it is from the hot exhaust hitting the cold exhaust pipe. Quote
CAL8P569 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks. I take it that you don't think there is any problem or anything to be concerned about. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Condensation in the exhaust from exhaust system. Mine does the same thing. Quote
aero3113 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Nothing to worry about, Welcome to the forum:D. Please update your profile and add a pic so we know where you are from. Quote
greg g Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Hey Harold How are you? You are just looking at normal condensation. Especially in cool air when your exhaust is hot, it will draw cool air into the system when you shut down. It will condense and sit there till you start up and blow it out. Nothing to worry about. Glad you could join us here. You might like to tell folks how it was you turned up in Maryland, and where you went afterwards. Since some of us might be comtemplating a bit of a ride this June. Here is a pic of Harold's ride Quote
CAL8P569 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Nice job Greg. I don't know what I'm doing, but it was a shock to see the picture of the 46. So, now that I know I'm ok with the tail pipe -- do you (or anyone else) know how I can get rid of the internal rust in the block? Can I pour in some type of acid? Or should I just leave it be. Quote
greg g Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 If your running temps are ok, I wouldn't be too concerned. There are a number of commercial system flushes that you can run through if you feel it would be of some benefit. Some rust is inevetable but a big build up of crud will lead to hot running. if your temps are in the 160 to 190 range, you should be good to go. Quote
CAL8P569 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Guess I'll take Denise's advice and leave well enough alone. It was running real hot up the mountains when we left CA, through NV in the hot weather, and then ran ok all the way to MD and back (cold weather then). I'll just watch it for the time being. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Wow ! That sounds like a fun trip. I'd like to do that in my 42 Coupe sometime soon. The rust in your block is normal unless it gets like this. Quote

That is one awesome p15, if you say denise are you talking cookies? Thank you for joining the forum! Quote
CAL8P569 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 That's some bucket of rust in Reg Evans photo! I think I'll just leave mine alone. Denise is my wife and she has been telling me to leave the engine alone, for fear that more harm than good will come from trying to clean it. She had not been that interested in the car until we took our "test drive" to Maryland. Good news, bad news, now that she is paying attention to the car! Thanks for all your help. Per suggestion, I put in my profile. Quote
